well i bought crimsonghosts 90' talon....ran good, got it home and the next day i started it and it wouldn't idle right, wouldn't go over 2k rpm, and had no power....check engine light was on but after about 5-10 minutes (once it warmed up) it ran fine....went to pick a friend up, and on the way back it starts to overheat....get to my house, and pop the hood and the fan wont run...rig up a switch straight of the battery to the fan for the meantime....get it back on the road, runs fine....get to my other friends house, shut it off, start it back up about 1 hour later and the same problems as before....only now its been running for a half hour and still wont go over 2k and the CEL is on.....drive home ( 10 miles) at no more than 20mph....great welcome into the world of dsm.....any thoughts?

Pull the code. Did you get his datalogger with the car? If so, you should be able to get the code from that.

As much as I would love to say otherwise, welcome to DSM tuning. It only gets better from here.

no datalogger.....but i hope it gets better cause this SUCKS.....

well i started messin with the SAFC and i dont know what i did but it runs now....doesnt run great but it runs....wont go over 10psi though so i cant really get on it....

If it's still throwing the code, you should find out what it is.

yes welcome to the dsm world, they are fast cars and when cars go fast things tend to break......

good luck hopefully nothing major biggthumpup.gif

Sounds like a big vaccum leak

good news....went down to the river tonight and ran into a guy that i know knows what he is talkin about....he didnt know how to use a SAFC but we went to his house and installed the gm maf....put the ballpark settings in and then used the SAFC to fine tune it....took a while but it runs 10x better...still not the best because it seems like its losing power at high rpm but its finally throwin me back in the seat....now i just gotta figure out how to shift that thing....cant get second for anything....

Lol, agreed spy. Try his advice first, then if you decide to go with a rebuild get a double 1st to 2nd synchro. DSM trannies are notorious for grinding when going from first to second. But, what Spy said will help alot without having to shell out all of your piggy bank. However, if you do go with a rebuild send it to these guys. They know the ins and outs of DSM trannies. www.shepracing.com

I'm still wondering why you are using both the maf-t and the SAFC. they both perform the same function. I just think your adding in a lot more variables. IMO, the maf-t does a lot of work for you in only having the settings of base, idle, mid, and WOT. it does the rest of the work for you and with the new version you can increase in .1 increments.

If you want to spend an arm and a leg, shepracing is the place to go. If you'd like to keep your limbs, try SloPony right here in Peoria. $150 labor plus parts. Figure around $350 for a stock rebuild, and they can get a hold of the parts to do about anything you want to it. biggthumpup.gif

thanks for the info....how hard is it to put the longer shaft in the slave cylinder? and its really hard tryin to get used to a bigger turbo....me and spoolin7m were cruisin up court both in 3rd gear and punched it and he gets about 4 or 5 cars out before my turbo spools up.....and it feels like its losin power in the upper rpms so we gotta play around with the fuel tonight....hopin to be able to race someone tonight....
awd4me
and the only reason i can think of to have both ways of control is to be able to fine tune it a little better...i could be completely wrong though....we got it idling good with the gm maf and then tuned it the rest of the way with the SAFC....plus its cool to be able to monitor a few more things....

If you lose that much ground just waiting for it to spool, you are in sore need of some mid range tuning. Personally I wouldn't touch a thing unless you have some kind of feedback tuning device like a logger, knock box, wideband, or at least an EGT guage. But it sounds like your midrange may need to be leaned out some if the turbo takes that long to spool. But, like I said, I wouldn't do too much leaning out if you can't look at a logger for some feedback, lest you burn, melt, or blow something up. ohmy.gif

Spy and AWD DSM 1 gave some great advice on the transmission problems.

ya.....i need to get someone to help out on the tuning end of things....messed around with it again tonight and still the same....i dont get good power until about 4500 and it levels off at about 6000.....that was until i MADE my own boost controller-------> trying to tune it and in second gear at about 6000 the car dies....so im thinkin i blew somethin up....try to start it, immediatly dies...look under the hood....the pipe that connects to the turbo hooks to the other pipe to the intercooler with a rubber piece with clamps around it (cant think of the name)....but that rubber piece decided to split and the tubes were completely apart...so we clamped it back together (still split somewhat) and now it wont go over 11psi.....later on i raced a bullit and a gt and lost both races by a fender because of that damn 1-2 shift....

Get yourself a datalogger and make yourself a boost leak tester. I bet that will fix 100% of your problems. Tuning without a logger is a good way to ruin the car. If you think your tuning is even close, take it from me, its not. I did it for like 6 months.
awd4me
how much $ am i lookin at for a datalogger?
awd4me
ya....actually im not gonna fix that rubber piece until i get a better boost controller and im gonna try not to beat on it....i need to get it tuned badly...
