Alright guys, I know this is gonna sound like a newbie question but what should I go with as far as a blow off valve???
this is for my 1G GSX with a hard upper intercooler pipe and its getting a EVO III 16G turbo, I am checking out HKS suppersequential and a few others, but I still can't decide. I want to make sure I get good performance but I also want some "pppssshhh" sound too, and I want to get one that I can just bolt on (no or little fabrication). what do I go with???

It's probably not the answer you're looking for but the stock 1G BOV is really probably your best choice there.
If you really want some "pshhht" though, we'll be coming out with one in about a month (samples due here for testing in a couple of weeks.)
If you're running a MAFT blow through, you'll be surprised at how well your 1G BOV should suit your needs though.

what is the best way to get my hands on one of these and how much will it cost???

ditto-

bastard who took the 'big' hammer to my bov crushed the h-e-double hockey stick out of it. Not sure how well mine will hold above stock levels.
I'm sure KOU will do a write up when the bov comes in and post a thread with video/sound etc.

ok right now your venting your BOV back into the intake. what kou is saying is that you get a gm mas translator and run it in a blowthrough set-up thus allowing you to vent to atmosphere. this would make for a much louder sound.

I still have the "hacked" stock 1G MAF, draw through style

i need to do some more reading on the blow thru/dump setup. but if you want a cool sound, that's the way to go. It sounds like satan when you get on it. I could be wrong here, but i think that the external dump also helps with boost creep?

external exhaust o2 dump yes. external dump of BOV only a cooler sound.

Travis, are u talking about a GM MAF translator setup???

yes, when you setup a MAF-translator, you can get the 'blow-through' setup that actually goes in between your upper IC pipe and throttle body (check me if im wrong) and that would allow you to vent your BOV to the atmosphere (without idle problems) instead of recirculating that air back into the intake, which would make your BOV sound MUCH louder, i've heard a crushed 1g BOV that's vented to atmosphere and it sounded somewhat like my Greddy Type-S BOV. either way, it sounds mean

I'm certain that at least three different people are talking about three different things.
GSXR80: If you set your car up for a BOV that vents to the atmosphere, the stock one is actually pretty loud. It gets muffled by the recirculation tube. You can actually make it louder with a hard intake pipe on the MAS. The sound gets muffled less.
XIAN: Atmospheric vent bov = totally different than external dump o2 housing.
Justin: You're incredible, as always.

I was refering to the BOV... IMHO, there is no reason to spend $$ on something that won't work any better than what you've got. Keep the 1g BOV, and use the money on a MAFT instead...

I think some of you hve misinterpreted what I want, I am looking at a BOV as a performance gain and if I get a "pssshhhtt" sound then great (a bonus), but performance is number 1. but if I will gain more from a GM MAF & translator, then I guess I should spend my $$$ there instead. thanks for the input!!!
If anyone has a hook up on an inexpensive way to pick up a GM MAF & translator then please help me out, thanks in advance!!!

thanks justin,
silly me, needs to sleep more. I should have known that one, as soon as you said it i was like, 'oh yeah, dumbass'... At the same time a month and a half ago all i could do was turn the ignition. Lot of terms and theories thrown at me since.

so is there any downfall to having a blow through MAFT setup....cause right now mine is setup as a draw through....

LOL somehow I am trashed as hell and still seem to be one of two people who read all this right. And on top of that, I am a complete motard when it comes to mechanics.
On a first gen BOV, anything that you can get stock is about as good as you are going to get on the street. They are well designed, and good up to like high 20s-low 30s PSI.
The only BOV that I can think of that tested better than the stock 1G BOV is the Greddy Type-S Unit. It has a higher boost spike than the 1G, and holds it longer as well. However, under about 320hp and 25PSI, I am not sure how much this would matter.
In the end, my advice is simply to stick with the setup you have. When you are looking for 10s, then start looking around elsewhere.
