OK. So I finally got all of the gaskets and everything I need to put my car together and I clean everything up really well and go to put it back together. I put the ARP head studs in the block lubing them with the oil provided as the directions say, then I go to slide the head on and it sticks about 1\4 of the way down. OK. I'll just take it off and put it on before I put the studs in. No big deal. Wrong! It wont budge! I cant get it off or on. I got inside the engine bey and Yanked as hard as I could. I used a piece of wood and pried on it. Still no budge. WTF? Any suggestions? Everything has gone smooth untill now. HA! Do you think that maybe the head studs are for a 7-bolt instead of a 6-bolt?

Spyonyou, i bought the head studs from rob and he bought them from you. I was just wondering if you knew whether they might be for the 7-bolt motor instead? That is what I am assuming has happened. Doh!

This happened to me before when I use the studs while installing the head with the engine in the car. I had the head stuck about 3/4 of the way down the studs and at one point even had an engine lift chained to it. I had to release the lift because the creaking and bending of the lift disturbed me out of fear of a cylinder head turned into a projectile.

I found the a quick jerk up or down on the corners to straighten the cyl. head on the studs was needed. Then a straight up quick pull will remove your problem cylinder head.

It seems that the seemingly minor bind on the studs is more than any steady pressure can undo.

good luck...it's a bitch with the engine in the car.

Welcome to my world. I've hoisted the front end of the car up trying to get a head unstuck. Basically I think you have to go off and on perfectly straight or you will bind. It may also be the head is warped a little. This is not something you can machine out though. With Marcus's suggestions you should be able to get it.

Well Damn. I put the stockers back on. LOL! Oh well. I had to back the studs out of the head to get it off of there.

if they were for a 7 bolt you would never have gotten them threaded. it's a different diameter/pitch.

Thanks Guys! Ive got the stock studs back in (but not tightened.) I think im going to take the head off again and try again. I was a little lenient when using the ARP moly lube so this time I'm gonna get them nice and greasy and try again. I am doing a big turbo upgrade and plan on running 20PSI sometimes so I think they will be a must. Thanks again for all of the quick feedback!
