Alright you guys, i am back on my dsm rebuild, gotten over the thought of getting a grand national, and have decided to throw a "ton" of money back into the black hole , my dsm. I love it to death, never have even thought about selling until now, now i am realizing why i see so many cars on the for sale forum with "new rebuilt motors" with very little mileage, i am just setting up late tonite wondering whats going to happen in the next month, next coming weeks, pouring all of my money and time into a project that has never had any good luck, from jumping timing belts, to spinning bearings, eating turbos, alternators, power steering pumps, all the likes. I am starting to wonder if my damn dsm is just haunted and is destined to never run on the road for more then 3 months straight with no major mishaps, for the past month and half i have been pouring my paychecks into my 300zx payments and my evileagle rebuild and i am just starting to worry, what if the damn turbo has bad seals from setting for so long, what if the damn rod decides to take an early vacation and visit its 16 friends up north, the valves? just a crapload of what ifs? i have decided to totally redo the whole bottom end, bearings, rings and arp everything and even picked up a cheap ($200) NX Nitrous wet kit for a "rainy day" that might never come, i am really just starting to wonder if this is even worth it any more for a car that has never treated me right but i have always given it more attention and money then it maybe deserves... for god sakes i have spent probably twice as much on maintenance then i have upgrades, all for a car that just likes to throw pissy fits and break something new. i have given my baby everything new from a damn awd tranny and transfer case, 3 heads and now its second block, when the hell is this nonsense going to end? I have always just thought, maybe my car was just built by the slow maintence guy at DSM during the afterhours while no one was looking or something........ alright i know everyone else goes through this damn depression state with their own dsms, but how the hell do you get over it? i know it feels good to just lay waste to ls1's and 5.0's but seriously, you feel like crap when you see that guy everyday driving their damn car and hardly ever having any down time, as to you, as a dsm driver have tow truck numbers memorized and have more money into your car then you do your significant other, maybe not all of us do, but i know i do, how do you guys get over this?

I will never get over it. I have just come to the realization that:
A. My DSM is more reliable than any woman I have ever been with.
B. The DSM brings me fun on so many levels, every single time I get in it.
C. The DSM is cheap.

If you can say B and C about any girl you have ever dated, then congrats to you. If you are like me, and can't, then ask yourself this:

How much depression have you dealth with from women?
How much time have you wasted on women?
Do you still date women?

My point exactly.

I know how you feel exactly. It's been about a year and a half since I started my project. It still sits in the garage very very close to completion and right now I just don't have the money or drive to work on it. So it sits, waiting. I just take time off of the project whenever I feel burnt out. Let it sit there until you go out with one of your friends one night and they start messing with another import or something. Just enough to get your adrenaline fix and give you that drive to get your project done. Mine sat for about a month at a time in between working on the major components ie. engine assembly, engine swap, rear end swap, electrical work
Take your time and do it right, if you get frustrated, just come back to it later.

Get rid of the Z and have a cheap daily driver. That's basically what I have. A decent reliable DD that gets 34 mpg, isn't so nice that I really want to make it a project, but not ratty enough I smell like oil when I drive somewhere, and no payment, and worth what I have in it if I want to sell it. The high maintenance b*tch gets work when I feel like it and if it doesn't run I can just not worry about it. I pump money into it when I want to and when I dont feel like it I dont.

But one big payment and one big project don't usually coexist happily.

Sorry bout the key-thing, I sent that $#^@!~ twice, and got it back both times. Must be the security issues w/ it being in an envelope. I also recently moved, and started a new job so....

But I do have it with me, and will get it to you sometime. Anyway, how is the beast running? 34mpg?? Hmm....
Ever resolve the idling issue? That's a good car for 800 bucks. You can't buy shit for 800 bucks. I've been looking for a 1000 dollar car for my g/f, and nothing but junk to be found. I've been just about every where in west-central illinois, southeast iowa, and northeast missouri---all shit.

I think I was spoiled w/ my $400 pick up of a 1989 Civic Si. Runs perfect. No rust or dents.

Let me know if you know of anything for sale cheap. And you can let me know if you need any VW parts....we are rearranging some shit in the shop and came across a lof of parts...and a 1.8 CIS-E engine.

Haha it's no problem. Haven't locked myself out - yet. It's been a great car although lately there is a wharf-wharf-wharf sound coming out of the right front suspension/tire/wheel area. Kind of sounds like a wheel bearing but I haven't pulled a wheel off yet to check it out.

I'd be interested in the dub stuff, still haven't solved that idle issue. I got a Bentley manual and a CIS-E troubleshooting guide but no help. Was thinking of just taking it somewhere locally. I tried messing with the timing but it wasn't a timing issue. I'm sure it's something simple. Did notice that the plug wires zap me when I touch the outside so I think they could use replacing or something. Otherwise I just put gas and oil in it and not worry about it. It does smoke some, my belief is bad valve guides, would be nice to have another motor around!

And yeah occasionally you find a gem under $1k.. usually something nice that needs an alternator or something, something pricey at a shop but you could do yourself fairly easily. Look for something that needs a clutch maybe..

Has to be an auto.
I think I've found her a 88 Cabrio for $1400. 120k, auto. Red w/ new white top. No rust, no dents....AND VW-Reliability, right?

Damn, you're a post-whore everywhere aren't you?? I suppose that's what the forums are for...until you get banned---MWAAaaahahaha.

That damn Jetta will run forever. As long as you keep oil :-), and gas in it.
The engine is out of a 86 Golf...I think it had like 98xxx miles. My buddy just bought a badass 84 GTI, and he may be wanting some spare parts, so let me know what you want.
