Tonight I was working on a car, and came to the point where it was time to put the injector clips back on. Well, tonight I found a simple six second installation method that will leave the hair on your head, the beer in the fridge, and the screw driver out of the wall.

Now, we all no what a piss poor job the mitsu God's did designing the little injector clip 'staples' that hold the injector clips onto the injectors.

These little f.u.c.k.e.r.s sometimes go in easily (well, never for me, but i've heard others say that sometimes they do), or they can be as painfull as a night with the bloomington IDB initiation club.

Untill tonight my solution was broken clips or just asking people to kindly not smoke next to my car when it was idling due to the massive amounts of fuel being sprayed out.

You will need:
2 needle nose pliers
one hand
and 2 minutes for all 4

Allright, this is your starting point:




Begin by inserting one of the needle nose pliers into the inside of the clip, with the pliers opening width wise of the clip. Fit the tips of the pliers in between the center console and the plastic outer edge.

Fairly simple, and no ones cussing yet. Take the second set of pliers and insert them into the clip as well, in the same fashion. Once again, here is another pic that does a better job than my words would.



Here's another pic just to make sure you understand what I'm talking about:

O.K. So Now you have both pliers inserted inbetween the center console and the plastic outer edge. At this point in time you might fumbling around a little bit with the two pliers, injector clip and the injector clip staple. This is the hand postion I found to work best for me. If you have a better way, great, use that. I'm just trying to cover any issue you might have.

With your palm facing upwards towards you, rest the top part of the injector clip (where the wire harness goes in) inbetween the ring finger and giving the bird finger of which ever hand is not your dominate hand. The center console should be facing you. Take your thumb and place it across the juncture where the two seperate peices of the plier come together of both pliers at once. It is similiar to the trekkie symbol or the way you would hold your, eh, junk. Maybe that's why this method is so easy.

allright, at this point in time take the staple with your dominate hand and feed it into the two slots for the staples. You can do this with the same hand that is holding everything if you want to show your lady a trick (caution: showing your lady the dexterity and control you have over your fingers may lead to less time working on your car.).

at this point in time you can push the staple all the way into the clip.

After that, you can go ahead and push the injector clip onto the injector. As you push it on, you will here a click, and when you look down the staple will have popped out a couple of centimeteres.



Take a small buck knife, or a flat edged screw driver and push the staple back flush against the injector clip. You will know it's all the way on becuase to very ends of the staple will stick out a few millimeters past the clip if you look for it hard enough.

Well, that's it. It's so damn easy I did it one handed while taking pictures. Hope that helps some of you out. It will probally take you more time to read this than to do it.

Mine hasn't had those clips on for almost a year now. I ran into the cussing fit you speak of and went with "The hell with these things." Thanks for the writeup, I may use the clips on the new car now.

Same here. If the engine is destined to go, she'll go. With or without the clippies. However, much props for figuring the lil bastards out!

My problem was never reinstalling the clips, but trying to remove them without breaking the old brittle plastic. After many attempts I finally found that H o n d a / A c u r a injector clips fit perfectly and have a MUCH better clip design. They are easy to splice into the wire harness and you don't ever have to worry about your injector connectors coming loose again.

As far as replacement clips, interestingly enough, some of the 2G clips have a simple push-lock system (squeeze the buttons on the sides for release). Seems to be a little hit or miss though as my '95 Talon has the 'better' injector clips but a another '95 Talon we have in the shop is stuck with the old style ones. (the one in Xian's pics is actually a 2G that we surmise has some leftover '94 harness pieces used from the factory).

I'm always a little iffy on unneccessary harness hacking though to swap the actual clips. Not that the install and function isn't good, just that I've had a few bad experiences with wiring harnesses that have been hacked on by a succession of owners (downside of 15 year old modified cars I guess. )

As far as removing the little 'staples' I've had good luck with using a pocket knife to gently seperate the staples from the injector clip.
