I am going to be purchasing a new ACT 2600 soon for my AWD. I was wondering if there are any good/cheap places to get it installed. I would also need my flywheel resurfaced. Would KOU do it? I'm guessing the dealership would try to rape me on the price.
Also if anyone knows where I could get a cheap ACT 2600 let me know. I am looking at fasterthanthem.com, extremepsi.com, or prostreetonline.com. Fasterthanthem sponsors a forum that I'm on, so i'll probobly buy form them, unless I can find a site thats a lot cheaper.
Thanks for your help.

You help me do mine and I'll help you do yours. I've taken a few DSM transmissions out before but only one was taken out without the motor. I'm just waiting until I get all the parts and the weather gets warm enough. I'm a sissy when it comes to being cold. BTW, I've got all the tools you need.

I'll talk to you on AIM sometime. That would save me a lot of money, but we'd have to do your car first, to make sure we don't screw anything up

.
Don't worry, I hate working in the cold too.

Did it.
Also, unless craig(owner of fasterthanthem) can match prices, I'll most likely get it from prostreetonline. They have it for like $330.00

Yea, but I wanna give craig the chance. He's a good guy, and would understand if I wanted to go for the cheaper price. but If he'll match it, I'll support him.

As far as installs go, KOUMotorsports can do it, or I can do it.

Ask Xian for a quote from KOU.
I'd assume a couple bills, that's about what I'd want.
Book time is around 8 hours, if I remember correctly, which at a dealer is around 550-600.

I know for a fact that I or KOU will beat that. KOU is in Champiagn, I'm near Peoria. How far out are you?

I'd trust KOU or James to do it before any other shop.
BTW James, do you have a clutch alignment tool? I've got to know that I have access to one before I put the new clutch on.

Mar 2 2005, 08:52 PM
I have one, and if you buy a clutch, one usually comes in the kit. I'm sure I can scrounge one up.

LOL, hit the button a couple times James? I bought my clutch as an open box deal. Basically it was a $350 clutch that only cost me $175 and everything was NIB along with a Mitsu OE TOB, the only thing missing was the alignment tool. I'd greatly appreciate it if I could borrow it come swap time. As soon as I get the new flywheel and the clutch fork cryotreated I'll be ready for it.

O yea. I wasn't saying I'll go to AMS, but thats what my friend told me.
Umm, change of plan, kinda. I quit my second job, and make less a month now. I still have car payments so I don't have the option of saving (as much), ya know. I'm probobly going to just wait till after Basic training. Then I'll come back and have the new clutch, flywheel, and rebuild all at once. But If for some reason i save up $800 before May, ill let you guys know.
I wish I had more money.

It shouldn't cost you 800 all together.
If you're not willing to take brett up on his golden opportunity offer, then you are making the right decision.

Shep resurfaces flywheels for under $35 and I know there's a place in Gibson City that will lighten it for you if that's the way you want to go. Call Ryan at 309-531-7291 and ask for the number of a good place to get your flywheel balanced. He'll know the place in Gibson that I'm talking about.

I'm with Brett on this one. The only reason to have the flywheel resurfaced or replaced is if your current one is trashed. I would just buy a Spec Stage 3 for 300, and pay to have it installed. Just my opinion, regard it as such.

Eh, for what he's got on it, I'd just go with a stage 2 Spec clutch. I quote Spy on this one "the stage 2 is good for breaking trannys and the tires loose in an awd". The Spec Stage 2 is at (http://www.thespeedfactor.com/clutch_dsm.html) for $360 and you could have an ACT streetlite flywheel for about $230 (www.straightlinespecialties.com). That's well below you're $800. In fact, you've still got $210 left to spend on an install if you want to spend the full $800.

I am going to go with the ACT Streeline(?) Flywheel, and the ACT 2600 clutch. Both of those I can get for under $600.
