Is it worth creating a LICP from muffler pipe for a SMIC?

I have a Buschur UICP, thought a steel lower would help clean up the flow.

I've been told it helps. If you put a larger inlet and outlet in the stock intercooler you'll see a gain also.

Not nearly as much as the UICP. The stock upper piece is much smaller than the throttle body and 2G elbow so an aftermarket one helps clear the restriction.

The stock lower pipe though is the same size as the turbo outlet and intercooler inlet so not nearly as much of a restriction. The steel might allow for a little less expansion and a slightly lower friction surface though.

Daryl's right that the stock in/outs of the stock intercooler are going to be a bigger restriction than the LICP at this point most likely.

How much boost are you running currently and do you have fuel and exhaust mods done already?

On the same subject, where's a good place to buy mandrel pipe bends?

How about getting an end tank changed? Who would do that?

Hoerr Racing has quite a selection of parts hrpworld.com

I have bought mandrel bends from jcwhitney in the past.

The hard lower intercooler pipe's main benefit is less pressure drop. When the turbo starts spooling the stock rubber ic pipes expand quite a bit. This causes pressure drop and increases lag.

Darryl, Who locally could put bigger ports in the intercooler?

Running 16psi right now with a MBC, only other mods are Buschur cat back exhaust and hacked air can with a K&N.

Just got my Pocketlogger working yesterday....fuel trims are all about 92% but I'm getting some Knocks that I have to look into.

I think you mean end tanks. Just FYI so you don't get misinterpreted.

Thanks...that's what I meant biggrin.gif

The ones I've seen its larger ports put on the stock end tanks. I'm still checking if my guy can do this modification.

Dejon sells one for $135 http://www.dejontool.com/DSM-1g-SMIC.htm with a additional $75 core charge.

Be interested in seeing the cost of just welding the tubes on...
