Quick and dirty, folks. Revved engine up to 7k while accelerating, and a little past 7, it started hesitating like with a rev limiter, and after that the engine has ran really weird. It feels like a miss in the engine, but its not jerky. Just really weak. And it sort of growls instead of purrs. Very hard to describe.

Anyhow, it ran like this until I stopped and turned the car off. On restart, everything was normal. That is until a while later when I revved it high again.

At first I thought I might have jumped timing, but obviously, that doesn't just go away, so I'm thinking maybe loose plug wire, cloged injector or fuel filter perhaps? Any help would be greatly appreciated and needed. Thanks.

Hmmmm, interesting. If you haven't changed your fuel filter lately, do so now and drain the fuel tank while you're at it. It may just be a clogged fuel element. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you.

Something else that may be helpful: there wasn't any smoke of any color from the exhaust during this, but there was a strange smell under the hood that I didn't recognize. Barbeque sauce, perhaps?

Sounds like some kind of ignition issue. I had something similar happen back when I had my FWD. Turned out I needed new plug wires.

Yeah, I'm definately getting new wires. Tried to check one this morning, and instead of popping out, it came apart Damn garbage. Might as well get some plugs while I"m at it.

I agree, the odor of barbecue sauce usually means there's a burnt connection somewheres. MMMmmmmmm.......barbecue

Changed the wires to no avail. I'm gone this weekend, so I'll start on the plugs and fuel filter, ect. next week.

Did you look at the coil pack when you changed the plugs? See if one of them may have some brown discoloration.

Bottom line is that shit happens. Don't tell me that it can't be possible, because every company out there puts out defective products once in a while. If you can buy a computer that's DOA, a set of poorly made wires can go bad in a year.

Found the problem. One of the wires was loose in the coil pack, and that caused some arcing which led to carbon build up inside the coil. Cleaned it out, and it runs like a champ. The associated plug did have some brown residue on it, too. And just to clarify the problem with the plugs I had, they came apart at the head, typically in three pieces. The first yank produced the rubber cap and wire end in hand. The second gave up the hard plastic shaft and bottom rubber boot. Then some needle nose pliers were required to finally fish out the metal plug connector.

Sounds like fun! Glad you got it figured out though.
