open source standalone fuel injection!

OK, so I have read every post on that topic and I see that there is tons of time and tons of self engineering involved..... what is the benefit????

So I have an EPROM that can be reburned in 20 minutes to whatever parameters I want. Please explain the benefit over EPROM flashing+MAFT, I just guess I'm missing something big.

I think you just hit the nail on the head!!!

that is exactly my point, I do not see how this prodect can do anything better for DSM's that the re"burnable" E-prom ecu can deliver.

The major advantage of the AEM EMS is on the fly adjustment, but I don't thisnk that this setup allows that.

20 minuits is not very long and it seems that this will take a couple of all nighters to install, even with an experienced individual overwatching the process.
what about reliability???

if there is an aditional advantage, someone let us all know

ok, nevermind then.....

I have a MegaSquirt for the mx6.$350 and it was already set up (basic) for my injectors,FP and the size turbo I have. Also came with a wiring harness.I also will be eliminating the Distributor with the Squirt. The key is to find someone building them vehicle specific and get in on a group buy.My guy Bobby with a Turbo Corrado got one for about the same price. It's awsome for vehicles with costly upgrades or for the mx6 hardly any. biggthumpup.gif

MS2 has spark controlability, and I beleive if you have a laptop with you, you cna adjust on the fly, more or less

yea i was gonna say that but didnt feel like being lynched tongue.gif

hey man, I wouldn't have lynched you.
your one of my crew!!!! cool.gif

I really don't know much about Mega Squirt,
I was only going by what I had read on the thread you linked to us.

as far as i can tell, it has all the features of a more expensive standalone with the minor inconvenience of having to build it yourself. but that isnt even a problem anymore, due to there being several vendors that sell completed ones. tuning is with a laptop, and i am under the impression that it is "on the fly"

so take your restrictive MAF out, beat it with a hammer, and throw it in the trash, becuase it is not used with this system. it is MAP based (map sensor is onboard the unit, you run a small vaccuum/boost line into your cab much like you would a boost gauge) and uses factory tps, coolant sensors, and intake temp sensors (if you choose not to use gm sensors, which its typically set up for)

and any standalone would have to be wired up just like this one, so it doesnt really seem like alot of work to me, personally. but i get off on electronics, so i guess i am biased tongue.gif

ben, you remember me showing you all that megasquirt shit i bought? well, i got all the board components and i am going to be finishing it soon. if you decide to go this route, i will build it for you (i went to icc for this shit, and i am very good at soldering)
will prolly go into my probe, if i decide to keep it..... maybe ill use it on the inferno, who knows....

my motorcycle is getting a smaller more compact version of this setup so i can fuel inject it. should be pretty damned cool when its done....
Fiero Inferno
oh i forgot, once someone has done what this person did with the dsm's then you no longer have to do any research because it is all there now. just copy what he did. the install is pretty shitty but its a temporary one. i personally would make it look "factory" because i am anal about that kinda shit...
SCCA Stang
If you feel confident that we can make this happen fairly cheep and look like a profesional job, maybe we can make this a late fall/winter project... I have the old Dell laptop that after my deployment will serve me no purpose. we can use it for the in car laptop and I can find a police car laptop mount from stealitback.com

thanks for the insite, i guess I didn't read enough info on the product.
it just looked like a big jumbled mess of wires (I don't get off on electronics like you do)
Fiero Inferno
in all reality we dont even have to make a harness. the factory harness can be used, and we can hide the megasquirt inside a factory computer case. looks factory, and professional. i need to read up on the dsm application and see what i have to do to it.....

Did you guys ever make any progress on this project?

Check this out: www.diyautotune.com
Fiero Inferno
no, ben stumbled onto some other product, and decided to go with that (i believe). i however, have decided to stick with the megasquirt and i will be installing the latest version onto a turbo cavalier sometime within the next few months.

Cool, keep us up to date. I believe Moushon is putting one together for his NA Miata.
