I have had one or transactions with the spy guy. In my time of crisis after totaling the Fucus, he sold me his 240 for the price he bought it. I had NO money to even give him a down payment to buy. He set up a payment plan that I agreed to. Thanks to him, I was able to rebound and move on. He has done the whole payment plan idea to many a people. I also bought a starter from him, only for it to be bad. After finding out the starter was bad, he comped the part and the shipping to me. Business-wise, I have never had a bad experience with him.

By the way, I don't know if I have told you thank you enough for that.

I too have had nothing but good dealings with Spy. At least 3 cars, and countless parts bought and sold - no problems.

Just today I sold some parts to the spyguy. He bought all of them at the agreed upon price without haggle or dispute. I try to give him the best deal possible and he does the same if not more for me. I have always driven to meet him but given the circumstances and situation, he has always made it worth my while. Nothing but A+ performance.

Now, said party on the opposing team is not without their good qualities either. I get nothing but the utmost respect out of this business and their employees. For the most part, my dealings have been used parts from their salvage vehicles. Their U-pull it system has proved valuable at saving me money. Also, nothing but A+ performance.

I personally choose not to "take sides" in this matter as I am in good business standing with both individuals and until one or the other proves me wrong for trusting them, I will continue to do so. I choose to take the passive standing in order to retain my good profile with both parties. Good luck sorting it out boys.

Any time I have ever needed help with anything, as I am new ot the DSM community, spyguy has been there for me. His thoughts and suggestions are always helpful, and I even owe him thanks on obtaining my current car. He is a very honest man and seems to me like he would break his neck to help anybody. I would never doubt his honesty or opinion. To me, he is one of the greatest in the DSM community, is very knowledgable, and a great man to deal with. I would never hesitate to buy anything from him as I know I would be getting a very fair price, fast shipping, and everything would come just as described. I don't know that from experience personally, but from everything I read and by having some private convo's with him, I believe that to be true.

i havent had the chance to meet spy, but he fixed my ecu for my at a really good deal IMO. He even took the loss on the extra shipping that came up when he tried to ship it back. Very good guy to communicate with, and very knowledgeable with any questions i have for him. Id consider him the one of the most honest, if not the most honest guy on the board

Maybe I've been dying my hair too much lately or somethign, but I am friggin confused after reading that Fromwhat I gather (I read the whole first part and skimmed the spy add ons) someone wrecked your car and isn't owning up to it and has been screwing you around for some time now.
Regardless of whether or not you were egging them on, they wrecked the car and you should be compensated.
I have never had the pleasure of buying anything from spy, but I know that if I were in a crunch that he would be there to help me. He has offered to before. To put it simply... spy is good people I would never have any hesitations in doing business with him.

I hope you get all of this sorted out and don't have to take it as far as lawyers. Good luck spy!!

I've actually talked to a few people about this general situation... someone is driving your car and has an accident that was mostly thier fault. When asked 'what would you want' most responded that they would want the driver to turn the incident into thier insurance and have the car returned to it's original condition.

When approached with the option of paying the difference between what the car was bought for, and what the asking price was, most had some reservations. I think defining the car's actual value was the part that most people had a hard time with.

100% of the people asked said that regaurdless of provication, the driver has the ultimate responsiblity for the vehicle, and that they also have the responsibility to make things right with the owner after such an accident.

This information was taken from 100% unbiased sources, who know neither party involved. Hope it helps get things resolved.

Based solely on the information presented previous to this post, I would say that the driver is fully or at least majority at fault here.

In Short: You let your friend drive your car, but you did not make him drive it into the fence. You should not ultimately be responsable.

I honestly disagree that he should be liable for the "projected" sales price of the car, however I do feel that he is liable for the cars "true market value". I also feel though that with out involving lawyers and courts you could make of even by being compensated for your investment price.

Going for your investment price is probably your best bet and will save your self some time, energy and heartache.

And just for the record... I do not feel that you have ever screwed me, so your offer to fix any unpaid debts to this forum will not apply to me.

These two quotes seem to be at odds with each each other.

theres a difference between paying the replacement price of the car and paying the initial purchase price. I guess the question is...can the car be replaced for the initial purchase price? It sounds like thats not possible, hence that person is not paying for the replacement of the car.

I'll use my car as an example, i payed 16K for it, but it's worth closer to 22. If someone wrecked my car and only payed me 16K i couldn't replace my car....And i dont think that would be fair, i feel i would deserve the 22 so i could buy a 'replacement'

An interesting point. I suppose there are two schools of thought there.

One is that if you were able to track down the deal for $16K you could duplicate the feat and find another one. Most of us find 'good' deals and are able to repeat the process. I've heard some say that there are thousands of deals out there and that they run across them eveyday.

The other school of thought is why 'book' value exists. I believe most would go to kbb and establish value from there to see if your 22K vs 16K was actually the case.

Given a case like Kapoosh's Audi with that much time elapsing, I would imagine most would go straight to book value. However, if Kapoosh was just leaving the dealership, I would imagine they might just look at the hours old receipt and put you back where you were at the start of the day with a reimbursement of purchase price.

Just my musings there though, I'm not certain and it might very well vary from adjuster to adjuster.

Well in my case I actually can't find a replacement at that price. My friend is looking for an identical car (color combo, miles ect...) and we can't located one for less than 20.5. And we've been looking for months. Most are well above 20K.

I dont know if thats the situation, i'm just giving my point of view. If the owner CAN replace the car for the initial purchase price than i think it's fair.

And with cars that are more rare (like the S4, and i believe the Galant VR4 is pretty rare also) blue book can be quite a ways off. The market price for an S4 and blue book price usually don't match well at all.
