I need to do something to the brakes on the GSX. when I was on leave I noticed that they just feel a little squishy at first on the pedal. once you get into the padal a little bit it becomes firmer again.

does it just need a fresh bleed, or does it need something more.
I am running:
stock (absolute factory I think) calipers
Powerstop slotted rotors
Bendix CT3 Ceramic Pads
stock brake booster

and it is a '93 so it should have the bigger of the 1G brakes from the factory, right?

BTW... car has a little over 100,000 on it.

I had a similar problem a while back, bleed the brakes and inspect/replace any questionable rubber lines. Can't go wrong with a Braided set!

Taxi - Thanks, I wasn't sure if I was looking at a new set of calipers or just a bleed and some new lines. I heard that sometimes braided lines have more chance at leaking at the fitting than standard rubber hoses. Is this truth or myth???

is there a stock replacement (dual or more) piston caliper out there for decent prices for the 1G DSM???

I don't want to go too overkill, cause I know that braking power past the point that you will lock up the wheels is pointless and most of the time counter productive.

I am planning to duct some more air into the braking area to reduce fade. I figure that with a fresh bleed of high boil point stuff and some braided lines will do me just fine. A fresh coat of red paint will help the astetics while I have them off.

is there a advantage to swaping out 100,000 + mile old calipers with fresh stock ones or would the difference be so minimal that I would be wasting time and money?

I haven’t really heard to much on that. I would think as long as you got a decent brand and didn’t buy the lines and press the fittings on yourself you would be a lot safer.

Usually Problems associated with the brake booster, or faulty calipers tend to cause excessive pedal pressure, not to say that rules out those components completely. The caliper pistons sometimes can seize up causing noticeable problems with stopping or pulling to one side. Your best bet would be to look around the brake line connections for any signs of leaks, check all the rubber pieces to be sure they don’t show signs of deterioration , Make sure the master cyl is full and nice and tight against the firewall, bleed the whole system and replace with a good high temp brake fluid.
