I started swapping the fuel pump in my Talon. Finally got all but one of the nuts off the sending unit. Last one is going to have to be snapped off. Problem is I can't get the hose disconnected from the top or the underside connection. There so rusted I'm pretty sure it'll snap the tube off the sending unit trying to get it off, I've been soaking everything in PB Blaster on and off for 2 weeks. I've read the VFAQ and I'm using flare wrenches.

As a backup plan I started looking for a sending unit (Napa, Advance, Autozone). Apparently you can only get it through a dealer, can't wait to see how much they want for it!!!

So, does anybody got any suggestions or an available sending unit they want to sell (1G AWD)

I now have to go out and find the tools I threw around the garage, yard etc. mad.gif

I've got a AWD tank with the sending unit and hose still attached... I've soaked it in PB Blaster also over the last few months, but I'm not sure how easy it'll come apart. I think I cut a line to get it out. $50 for the whole unit, or make an offer on what parts you think you need. biggthumpup.gif

I'm going to keep soaking it...was wanting to get it in by this Friday's trip to Cordova.

AWD DSM 1, where are you located? Can you email me a picture of the tank so I can get an idea of what shap the sending unit's in.

when i did mine, it did snap...

I had to flare out the tip of the hard line so that a clamp would keep the fuel hose on it. good luck, can after can after can of PB blaster have gone into the GSX.

Sweet mother of God....I finally got the pump out!!!

Used a wire brush in a dremel to remove as much as the exposed rust on the threads as possible and soaked the threads in PB for 2 days straight. I also cut a block of wood to put under the outlet tube to prevent snapping it while turning the wrenches.

Did that other tank help any? I hope so! biggthumpup.gif

Yeah it did thanks! Hopefully I can return the favor some day!
It was alot easier for me to wrench on those rusty fitting knowing I had a backup unit to throw in if I broke it. The car is my daily driver and I can't have it down for a long period of time.

FYI...I had to put that hose atttached to the sending unit in a vice to get the flare nut to break loose. ohmy.gif
