black92_tsi_awd
Change your mind about selling it??
mitsu90
well no one seems to want it, and I never wanted to sell it just need the money
mitsu90
took the Jpipe off over the weeken and it is clean no oil to be seen, Adam checked my turbo last week and said there was no shaft play. I am not 100% sure that it is the head I'm just going off what James told me when I picked the car up. I have been wanting to do a comprtion test to be sure it was not the rings. I have noticed this last week that the car has been popping the dipstick.

Have you done a boost leak test on it yet? It could just be your PCV is bad. I would start there. Just to give you an idea.

I have noticed this last week that the car has been popping the dipstick.
When mine use to do that, it would blow oil up the tube also. There are fixes for it to stop it from popping out, i never did them. But since my motor was rebuilt, it doesnt do it anymore (using the original 180,000 mile dipstick). I also have a breather can on the valve cover that would also blow out and into the engine bay, would that have been caused from bad rings?

On a side note, when i drive my car, it has an oily smell to it, but i have no visible oil leaks and it doesnt burn/use any oil. Would this be coming from that breather cap venting into the engine bay?

mitsu90 have you thought about just pulling your head off and having it rebuilt? It may be the best way to go. If you get a used head, it may not be in much better shape than what you took off, and you will still have to take it to a shop and make sure its straight anyway. Take it to precision in bloomington, he did a good job on mine, and he probably could put the 5 speed cams in for you, he seems to have alot of engine stuff lying around.

It must be smoking like a freight train, Huh? It might solve some of it but not all. I have bad valve seals, it's just like on one valve. But since I bought a check valve system for my car the smoking isn't as bad. Mind you this is just sitting and idling for me.
But from what your saying it's really bad? And I don't believe it will fix it all. And a boost leak check is still in order. Just to check your turbo seals also. You do this by blocking the pcv vacuum hose. Run your tester from your turbo inlet, and if you here air in your crank case it could be bad turbo seals.
It's better to trial and error before you sink a shit load of money in it.

Are you running a catch can? If so you should check it see if it's full. And if not get one, the only smell I have is like old gas smell. And that's because I unhooked my purge canister.

And for the guy that is blowing the dipstick BOOST LEAK TEST. Igave the link and just try it, You will be surprised at all the leaks you will find. And I would bet money it is your pcv valve. Just check it.

Popping the dipstick is caused by excessive blow-by from the combustion chamber to the crankcase or a worn out dipstick. A compression test is what's necessary to diagnose this condition, not a boost leak check.

I will try to do a boost leak test this weekend, the reason I am looking for a good used but cheep head is to have it redone then put it on my car, this is me DD so I can't afford to put it down while the head is being redone. and I smoke more than a freight train ohmy.gif

Yes goat you are right I am sorry for miss leading. I am glad you cleared that up. Because after I posted I thought about it. And was wondering how the pressure would get to the dipstick. wacko.gif

And mitsu90 that is a great idea. I just sold or traded one that had cams and all. Just so I didn't have to mess with taking some exhaust bolts out of the head that is in my car. Stupid ass me dry.gif !
mitsu90
I also have 2 broken exhaust manifold bolts mad.gif I'm watching one on ebay thats at $10.50 right now and it looks in great shape
