What kind of options do you guys know of for your car battery.

I recently relocated my battery to the rear hatch area to make room for the FMIC piping. In my opinon this is the first step away from a dependable daily driver (Second if you count owning a DSM), now that I had to remove the spare tire.

What are your experiences with the smaller race type batteries? Do they hold up to DD use? Do they have the cranking abilities of the standard batteries?

Are there any other options anyone knows of? I would really like to keep this car as DD friendly as possible.

I was able to retain the spare with a full-size battery. If you modify that hold-down bolt/washer ( cut the washer down to size), you can mount the tire further reward in the hatch through one of the outlying holes in the rim. The spare lays at an angle and it isn't very pretty, but it works.

get a miata battery? them seem to DD fine on a smaller battery......

Not sure if I would go with a Miata (or any car that doesn't require as much CCA) battery. The main thing you want to look at is CCA, or cold cranking amps. It's ok to be right at or above what the stock battery spits out. Anything below, and you're compromising cranking power.

We have an Odyessy Drycell battery that worked great in the race car. Its the PC925 designed to last 8-12 years. Don't need it anymore and would like to sell it.

I am running an Optima Red Top in the GSX.
It is mounted in the stock location
The CCA far exceed what the stock battery puts out.

dependability remark.

When my wife ran the battery out of power, which by the way is very difficult to do with an optima, she left the dome light on for over two weeks, and when she went back out to periodicly start my car, she noticed the the light, was still on!!! the battery had enough left to power th light, but was not enough to crank the engine over (my only complaint) after that incident it took fricken forever to recharge. no problems since!!!

I just acquired a small battery and kit - can't give you any impression yet but this winter should tell ... check into buschur's options...

If you still want a good look on your car. Find a FWD spare tire cover and hammer down your "hump" to be level with the raised brass supports. Lay the cover down. You may have to slightly modify where it meets the rear seats, but it should work. You can then mount your battery where you want, and it won't look weird with the carpeting. I would also recommend a dry cell if you are mounting inside the car. Also, go with AT LEAST 2 AWG wire to run up to your engine bay.

Regarding your "taking a step back from being a daily driver" remark; when is the last time you used your spare tire? If you did, you could **** up your center diff anyway, right? That's what the roadside assistance part of your insurance if for. I used it quite a bit. You need it with a DSM

I thought on an AWD, they give you a taller spare tire to match the stock wheel height. I know the spare in my AWD is bigger than the one that was in the L"o"ser

Kicks doesn't have a center diff anymore anyway. Da spool don't care what size your tires are!

Hahaha... Actually I have used the spare to get my car just a couple miles into work. It just so happened to be the first day in a while that we had a hard rain. Boy that was fun.

BTW - My current battery is an Optima red top dry cell, but it still wont fit neatly in the engine bay in any configuration. The NHRA approved battery box is what takes up all the room in the rear hatch.

I haven't run the cable yet. I'm going to check out Darryl's battery and go from there.

Hehehe, that's why I'm getting my C Class liscense (and also for work). So that I can drive the flatbed car hauler we're getting at work next week . I might have to "borrow" it a couple times for track meets.
