Check out these alternatives to the Corvette...

Mallett Cars
kup125
that sure looks a little cramped under the hood, i'm sure it has a nice power to weight ratio
JMoushon
That's a monster. Seriously. If you were to step up to the SC version, it would land you in the 4.X lb/hp range. Absolutely wicked.
SCCA Stang
that would easily keep up with a well built factory 5 roadster
akamiami
so am I reading that correctly or is it a mere 18000 for a new solstice with a new ls2 engine? or is it 18000 to do the conversion on a previously purchases solstice?

18K for that kind of performance with a warranty is ridiculous.
BudmannG
Now that's a car! I always wanted to stuff a big block in a miata, laugh.gif !
JMoushon
Base MSRP + $18k.

Still, you're looking at a 1 of 1000, $38k supercar. If a company were to build one of these cars from the factory, I'd bet it would go for more than $38k base.
natedogg
Now that's cool.

And this is cool too.

not bad at all, however, I wonder with the weight of the solstice already you arent buying a C6 with a less set up suspension

certainly cool, just not as good of a deal as it may appear to be.

of course, the pure rarity is nice and I'm sure its a blast to drive

itd be a fun car to drive but with that motor and the weight of the car what kind of gas mileage do you think you could get with that thing

gas mileage wouldnt be bad, those motors make kkille rlow en dtorque, depends on what gear they put in the rear end I guess, dunno what the gear ratios in the trannys are

C6's get high 20's on the HWY I beleive, I know LS1 fbodies w the 6spd get low-mid 30's and are by far heavier
JMoushon
Take about 900 lbs off the Vette. Should be around 8mpg better, according to the equation I have.

From Chevy's website they Z06 get 16 city, 26 highway.

If I had one that would be about 10 city!!

From http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette/specifications/

Auto Man/ZO6 Z51
Gear ratios
First gear 4.02 2.66 2.97
Second gear 2.36 1.78 2.07
Third gear 1.53 1.30 1.43
Fourth gear 1.15 1.00 1.00
Fifth gear 0.85 0.74 0.71
Sixth gear 0.67 0.50 0.57
Reverse 3.06 2.90 3.28
Final drive ratio 2.56 3.42 3.42

Sorry, I'd take the Vette over the Solstice given the choice and the financial ability!

900lbs? Not quite. A stock Solstice is only ~320lb lighter than a stock C6 (2860lb vs. 3180lb). Throw in any added weight from the LS2, beefed up brakes/suspension, etc. and I would doubt this thing comes in much under 3000lb. If you spring for the T56, it will be even heavier.
