I was just wondering if there are any common places that 2g fwd leak oil from often. I am pretty sure that it is coming from the oil pan, but just wanted to see if anyone had any other areas to look at. It does have a balance shaft eliminator kit, didnt know for sure if it could leak from there. Also were is the best place to get oil pan gaskets. I think Im going to just go the dealership but open for any suggestions.

As I've found out, DSMs can leak from every orfice possible. Exhaust manifold studs, valve cover gaskets, PCV valves, intake gaskets, valve cover bolts, turbo oil drain tubes, etc. etc. etc. You're actually going to have to diagnose this one. It's hard telling what's leaking without seeing it. Retrace the oil stream back to wherever it's coming from. Then you'll know where it's coming from.

I have glanced at it a couple times and it seems to be leaking from the oil pan right under my belts. Its not coming from around the oil filter. I was just curious b4 I do the work. I will look a little more though. Thanks

there is a trick that I have heard about that you put a dye in your oil, then use a UV light to see where the dye is leaking out from.... don't know where to get the stuff or what it costs or anything, but It sounds like it would work.

My whole engine would glow!!

GM sells it. Relatively cheap from what I remember and it actually glows neon green in regular light. I've had it in my engine to find leaks. When I worked at a Lincoln-Mercury dealership, they had more expensive stuff that was easier to see but you used special glasses and a special blue light to see it.

Nah, just go to the parts counter and ask for some oil dye. I didn't catch the part number, but they'll know what you're looking for. Comes in a tiny inch tall brown bottle and looks neon green when it's exposed to light.

Have you replaced, or taken the oil pan off lately? There could be a possibly if you did take it off that you overtorqued the bolts causing the holes where the bolts go to raise slightly higher than normal. I encountered this and actually rehammered it flat. Also while your at it, go ahead and get rid of that crappy paper gasket and use some high quality silicon instead. Be sure to retorque it down to spec

Ive used oil dye at school a couple of times and it works pretty good. I dont know how sure id be to run that oil/dye in my car though.

Well.... it obviously works on GM cars, So why wouldn't it work in ours?

It works pretty well, if prior to running it through the motor you throughly (sp) clean the area you think is leaking. I found a couple leaks
