All right everyone, I have the motor out of the car and I am wondering about new inserts before putting it back in.

If its a fwd i would. Save some time and work later on

I welded steal plates to the sides of my motor mounts and made them solid. A little vibration at idle but not to bad.

I plan to install the upgrade bushings on the front and rear motor mount only as recommended by akamiami after his experiences with his AWD.

Could you explain a little more? I am curious as to what happened with miami.

Miami had all four mounts window welded. At first it seemed to be fine, but he found you could get the benefit of the stiffer mounts simply by using the fron tand rear, while keeping some comfort using the stock side motor mounts. This also keeps the engine from vibrating bolts loose as he pointed out as well.

This makes sense. the motion you want to keep flex down the most in is the fore and aft rotational motion the engine creates when reving. So the front and rear mounts are the most important. There is a thread from Miami on this in the forum. I believe he may have said that he is only conserned about the front motor mount in that thread.

I have urethane mounts all around and can't complain. Of course my comfort standards may be lower than others. I've never had any bolts vibrate loose on me either. Of course unlike Miami, I just don't think finger tight is good enough...

I actually had solid mounts on all four points at one time in the GSX. This was unbearable for a dd and in fact caused my oil pan bolt to drop out of the car and my engine to lock. lesson learned....

Now I've got a solid front mount, left the rear alone as it is solid rubber stock (on an AWD at least) and isn't prone to excessive movement. The two side mounts are filled with urethane caulk. I find this setup to be quite agreeable, though a bit agressive.

On the other hand, in my Evo. I've got a torque dampener, and a solid urethane mount one the front mount. the rest of the mounts are stock, though again, the rear mount on the evo is not prone to much movement, though it is a dogbone style mount. This seems to be a nice setup as well and vibration is noticeable, but not harsh at all.

Prothane kit ordered. With any luck I will know what they are like by spring time
