hello all, i've encountered a problem. Last night i got into my car and it wouldnt start. It just clicks from under the dash when you turn it over. The starter doesnt engage only the clicking noise.Its never did this before,so has anyone had this problem before and what should i check? And yes i know dsm's break themselves

Sounds like a battery/alternator problem, but thats only my first guess. Try jumping it. If that doesn't work, try swapping ECUs to see if that works. It may be the source of your clicking noise.

i guess i should have stated the car has power, just when you bump it to start it clicks. Also i can push start it

Try tapping on the starter itself with something hard while a friend cranks for you. That way you can rule out the starter if it doesn't work. If it does start or try to kick over, it's probably the starter.

I had the bolt connecting the power cable to the starter back out on me. Make sure it's tightened down well so the starter is getting good flow. Also make sure that you're not having a problem with the clutch engagement switch.

Ive had the plastic button that engages the clutch switch fall off my clutch pedal before, i put a new starter in and retraced the wiring before i found the button in my carpet.

I had something similar happen once, and it wouldn't stay in. I think I ended up ducttaping it.

the car can have enough juice to run accesories and toggle the relay but not enough to engage the starter motor as well. what's the voltmeter say when you place it on the battery?

100% right..... you've got a dead battery most likely.

well no luck yet, i manually engaged the clutch switch, didnt start. i double checked the wires on the starter all are tight. the battery is less than a year old but i still took it out and had it tested check fine. so anyone want to buy a car runs great must push start j/k. anymore ideas guys

I am thinking that if you tried to jump start it and it didn't start, It would be the starter.

Age doesn't matter on a batter or anything else. It can still fail at any time. Also untrue about the jumpstart theory, bud. If the battery's trashed, jumping it won't do any good. At least take it by autozone or something and have them put their little machine on it.

He did say he had the battery tested and it checked out. The starter went out on one of my previous DSM's. That's what I would guess. You can check it by manually putting 12 volts across the leads on the starter. It will be easier to check if you take it out. Just be careful to keep your fingers away from the gear and use fairly thick guage wire because the starter motor creates a large electrical load.

99% sure its starter solenoid from what has been said.

check the wires going to your starter. My guess is the blue wire fell off the solenoid. It happens all the time. Thats the very first thing I would check. Obviously the ignition solenoid is getting current its just not sending it to the starter solenoid. Ive had that wire fall off all 4 dsm's ive owned.

well i ended up taking the starter off and found the problem. it was the wire connector inside the plug on the solenoid that had broke off. so a $0.29 fix, anyways thanks for all the ideas guys
