just picked this up today and all I can say is WOW this thing looks awsome. should have it installed this weekend. it's a stage 2+ and I can't wait to unleash the GVR4's full power

BudmannG
How much power is that supposed to handle?
asiankid91
5 hp lol j/k
turbohcar
Looks like a 6puck sprung disk and a nice pressure plate. Break-in procedure is critical to clutch life expectancy.

I just installed a stage 3+ in my 90 today accually. its the furamic full face disc (excuse me if i spelled that wrong) and a Steel ACT flywheel.

i like my stage 3 +... did not like my stage 3 though, the 6 puck clutch front and back chattered big time, then it ended up poping a spring out... hopfully with the kevlar on the one side of yours makes it all good for u.
turbohcar
Just make sure you have your flywheel resurfaced and it should be all good.
mitsu90
getting one of these:D

turbohcar
Good! Make sure when you do the clutch install as well, that you do the washer pivot ball fix (with a new pivot ball, my mistake), a new clutch fork wouldn't be a bad idea, stainless clutch line, new fluid, and when you get it installed, check the pedal height and disengagement. I had mundo problems with my clutch pedal assembly being really worn out and the master cyl. and slave cyl. leaking. So, I've got every possible modification to the clutch line you could ever have done.

is that steel or aluminum?

heard a lot of bad things about the aluminum flywheels, lot of good things about the steel though.
turbohcar
What bad things have you "heard" about aluminum flywheels? There are plenty of members here that have aluminum flywheels (including me) that have no problems with them.

The only steel flywheel I've ever seen/heard of is the stock unit.
awdnot2
The ACT flywheels are made of chromoly steel.

We lost a race in Bristol last year win our aluminum fidanza flywheel broke. The center section was left on the crank. Doesn't become an issue most cases.
mitsu90
it's a very nice flywheel, looks realy good and well built.
street_dreams_dsm
yeah... ok. the picture is not a dsm flywheel... threw me off. thats the one i just put in my car, i like so far. havnt gotten on it cause of breaking it in, but just driving it seems like the car revs smoother and less vibration biggrin.gif
fastclipse82
You should get a scatter shield if your gonna go with a lightweight flywheel.

The aftermarket ones stay together ok, it's the stock ones that have been lightend that tend to come apart and greneade into the passenger seat. I wouldn't worry about a scattershield unless you're running a lot of power through it.
mitsu90
well it took forever but the new clutch and flywheel have been installed. a big thanx to asinkid, spy, ncgalant and scorp for lending a hand with the install. and from what I can tell this clutch will grab instantly, I damn near stall the car every time I take off wacko.gif I just can't wait till I am able to see what it's made of. Adam what the hell was you saying about a piece of plastic under my car unsure.gif
Super16G
So far I dig our SPEC Stage 3+ and aluminum flywheel.I've only gotten 2 real good launches with it but they felt pretty damn good.
mitsu90
I'm gonna try to be good untill it's broke in. sad.gif
turbohcar
^^^ Believe me, it was hard not to test it out before I got mine broke in. I waited about 1500 miles before I started launching it. Others have said more or less. I've never had a Spec clutch but, I would think that they have a manufacturer's reccomended break-in time.

thanx for the tip. rolleyes.gif
turbohcar
Sorry for trying to help, don't roll your eyes at me because I stated the obvious. It is VERY crucial that you stick to the break-in time because that will determine how long your clutch lasts. If you're hard on it from the get go, it won't last long. My ACT 2600 didn't come with any kind of paperwork. No install tips, specifications, or reccomended break-in time. I had to scour the internet to try and find the proper break-in mileage and still didn't find anything concrete. So, I just used my best judgement and took an educated guess. I hope your install was as successful as mine was.
mitsu90
well my spec came with everything I needed including a brake in period. I wouldn't have to roll my eye's if you didn't treat people like they were fing idiots.

I'm posting that way in order to cover everything to help you out. Sometimes the stupid questions have to be asked in order to make sure you've covered everything. I've been working on DSMs longer than you have and cars in general since I was 5 years old. I don't doubt you know what you're doing however, I want to make sure that you know what you're doing and what the consequences are if you don't stick to those suggestions. This is all in order to help you! All you could have said is yes, mine came with instructions and a suggested break-in mileage. That's it. If you don't like me being here take it up with a moderator instead of wasting bandwidth. I'm sure they'd be willing to explain to you that I was just helping.

this is a good suggestion to keep things civil. Having patience with everyone is a virtue that will make everyones life a lot better. It's not always doable, but the more the better.
mitsu90
sorry kicks but sometimes I get sick of the same person pointing out the obvious.
AWD DSM 1
Somtimes the obvious is the most overlooked. Don't bash anyone for trying to help.
mitsu90
sorry but all he ever dose is point out the obvious. to me thats like telling some one that they don't know shit. yes I knew I needed to have something done with my flywheel thats why I had bought one. and yes I know I need to brake in my clutch that why I said I was gonna be good untill it get broken in. this thread was not a help me thread it was a look at what I just got thread.

Back on topic!

W00t for clutch/flywheel installs!

How many miles you plan on putting on that clutch before letting her loose?

haha i reset my trip too. I always used to go by 500 miles of stop and go. Last clutch I went about 200-250 and it lasted 25k miles and ~40-50 7,000rpm launches on Mickey Thompsons (was a street disc too)

I think this time around im gonna get in around 200-250 as well and let her rip
mitsu90
it a nice looking clutch
ncgalant
I went ~500 on my ACT2100. That thing didn't have much grip though. Once I tried a 7000 dump in 2nd gear and the clutch just sliped sad.gif Talk about a stink
mitsu90
well you better get a spec for your new GVR4 if you want to stand a chance tongue.gif
