hey guys... in my quest for a more reliable car to get... I have come up with something that my wife will let me get.... a 2G GSX.

I haven't yet found a suitable car to buy, but I am trying to figure out what parts I would be able to swap directly over to a 2G from my current GSX.

so far the parts that come to mind that will go directly over are:

engine dress up items
wheels/tires
MBC
turbo
exhaust header
o2 housing
catch can
144 intake pipe
3" GM maf
optima battery
CD player
1G intake mani
turbo timer
AFPR
injectors
fuel pump

parts that I need to find out will cross over:

shocks, struts
springs
brake rotors
exhaust
strut tower braces, front and rear
rear sway bar

if any body knows please reply here
and if anyone knows where I can find a fairly clean 2G, please PM

Be careful, I don't think the fuel pumps will swap over either. Also, stock 2g o2 flows more than a 1g, not sure what kind you've got on there.

What you going to do with the 1g?

I have a ported 2G o2 housing on my GSX right now.... and I was thinking that the stock 1G intake flows better than the 2g one, right???

as far as what I will do with the 1G... well upon aquiring a 2G and removing the aftermarket parts and replacing them with stock counter parts, I plan to sell it..... that is if some one doesn't give me the money I need for the 1G as it is first....

I wouldn't think that stock 1G parts will be hard to find... especially with out having to get the suspension stuff...

my wife suggested that I get the stock parts, do the conversion back to stock, sell the car then pick up a clean 2G.... don't know what will work out better

if you are going to strip down the 1G why not throw the whole 6 bolt into it and that way you will get a better head and stronger bottom end? you will have to run DSMlink or something of the sort to deal with the CAS issue but that is what i would do if i was buying a 2G.

oh and you will want to keep the 2G exhaust manifold on the car too... it also outflows the 1G (i am not sure if by header you mean stock manifold or a tubular one.)

gsxracer has a Pacesetter header on his 1G car. His 1G is also a late 92 if I'm not mistaken, and has a 7-bolt.

The CAS issue can be dealt with by using a 90 CAS and splicing the wires into the 2G harness. Magnus Motorsports has the VFAQ on how to do this.

But you are right about the 2G exhaust manifold.

It's actually a 93, and I belive he swapped in a 6-bolt.

The fuel pumps are different Ben. And if you need a stock 1G pump I got you covered.

Brakes and fuel pump will transfer, I've done it, no problems.

yeah the brakes will transfer over if you use 1G calipers with the rotors... but 94+ AWD brakes are better (dual piston and larger rotor) than the pre 94 so you are better off just buying new slotted rotors (or whatever you have) for the 2G. DSMparts sells their walbro255 for the 90-99 DSM so i don't see why the pumps would not swap over.

random question... do you have to do anyting with the sump (or whatever you want to call the thing on the other side of the 2G AWD tank) when you put in a new fuel pump?

accually.... it is a '93 7 bolt... I have picked up a 6-bolt block, but have yet to install it, or to get it built to my liking for that matter.....

I looked up the slotted rotors that are on my car now and power slot says that they are the same from june '92-'99.... those are the same ones that are on the GSX as we speak....

the exhaust header on my car is a pacesetter tubular header, that I am sure flows better than a stock 2G one

no, you don't have to alter anyting with the fuel sump on the left side of the car when you upgrade the pump.

that is odd because when i pulled my stock brakes off of my 92 when i did the 94 GSX brake upgrade there was a definatly difference in rotor size, but i have a 6-bolt 92 so who knows. i guess they will both work on the same caliper but i would hold your slotted ones up to a stock 2G rotor and see which ones are bigger. do you have dual piston calipers on your car?

what rotors are you using and how much were they? i need to do mine soon and was thinking about throwing some slotted rotors on my POS.

you just have to keep 1 piston calipers with 1 piston caliper brakets and rotors and vise a virsa.

if you have a 6-bolt 92, you have a pre june '92 car..... the rotors that are on my car are post june '92 rotors.... The calipers on my car are 1 piston.... which is the difference I guess between '93 and '95.... but according to power slot the rotors are the same.....

just out of curiosity..... has anyone installed duel piston calipers from a 2G on a 1G? what other mods are required to do that if the rotors are the same???

I am only currently trying to weigh a bunch of options to find out what choice would be the best choice.....
so far I have quite a few choices, some good, some bad, some unachievable, some very acheivable, some dismissed as soon as I thought of it and some I can't get out of my head to save my life.....

it's not like I have a personal parking garage where I can park 50 of my top choice cars so I have to pick one and run with it.... if I decide that I want to something different, I have to get rid of the one I have to get the one I want.... yes I have a lot of money poured into my current GSX and thats a lot of the reason that I have a hard time letting it go for what most DSM'ers want to pay for a '93 AWD.... I also have several hours under the hood and enough time driving it that it has grown on me..... however, I know that I can not keep it forever!!!!!

so, not sure if this makes sense or not, but yes I constantly think of cars that I would like to have, but I don't know exactly what I want..... I like running my ideas by you guys though because I like the input that this board gives me.... it helps me weigh my decisions......

ben, I know exactly where you're coming from as I've gone through the same permutations in my head countless times. It doesn't help that I currently own a 2g awd mt and an evo either. I've thought about continuing to mod analube as if my life depended on it, turning my attention to the evo and selling the gsx, transferring attention and to the 2g tsi and selling the gsx as modded, or stock, or some other combination. Now, I know the smart decision would be to sell the whole lot and buy a 89 geo spectrum (my first car ever), but I'm stubborn and enjoy owning cars that continually present problems, cost loads in modifications that yield marginal results, and will never be worth their invested value.

In the long run, you've got to decide your level of commitment and devotion. If you make a switch to a 2g now, you'll continue to be tempted to make a jump to an evo in a few years and so on. There are always cars that may be 'better platforms' and seem like a lot of fun. Hell, I think we'd all love to own rx7's, supras, Z cars, vettes, etc. but we're normal guys with real life constraints like family needs, requirements for initial price, insurance, utility, and ease of use that make DSM's appeal to us more than a lot of other cars.

I enjoy hearing you go back and forth about your 'mutant' gsx because it mirrors a lot of my own thoughts about analube. Keep up the introspection, cap'n!

i have put 94 GSX dual piston brakes (which are the same as 2G as far as i know) and they went on without a hitch... you need the caliper and the braket and they bolt right up.

Just FYI, you have to get new stainless lines with banjo bolt fittings if you want to use the 2G brakes on a 1G. The 3000GT brake upgrade for the 1G doesn't require new lines.

I can't confirm this from my own experience, just from what other people have posted in their experience.

where could I get said above duel piston brake calipers... would I just be best off to get reman ones from advance auto or something????

would the 3000GT ones be better than the '94 1G duel piston calipers???

The 1G big brakes and the 3000GT SL big brakes are identical as I understand it. It's just the 2G big brakes that are different.

You can get the calipers from a number of places. I would suggest the Mitsu dealership, but that's just me.

If you've got two pistons in your brake caliper, then you have the big brakes. There are a few late 92's that have them, I'm pretty sure all the 93's had them.

not sure what I have now.... it has been quite a long time since I have had the front calipers off of the car.... so does that mean that if I have 2 pistons on my calipers, then it would be pointless to buy different calipers????

ok, looked at the brakes on the car today and they are the 2 piston calipers.... so looks like I have the big brakes and the 2G calipers.... thanks for the help
