Anybody seen a knock sensor leak like this:

It's like the back melted off and drip down on the block. The sensor worked when the engine was running but I thought I'd ask.

I've seen a few of them like this... I think they get hot over the years and the filler melts out.... not sure what it is for sure. I've seen them work too, but I'd be replacing it.

The fluid is a viscous damper, it filters out extraneous engine noises/vibrations. As the sensor ages and the fluid leaks out, it becomes more and more sensitive to both phantom knock and real knock.

yeah it definetly needs replaced.
You can get a new factory sensor from Advanced Auto for cheap.
All they do is rebox the factory sensor. It even has the Mitsu sticker on it.

That could explain some of the knock issues I had last year.

Or it was the crank cracking! laugh.gif

I take it you haven't had any issues with a non-OEM sensor. I thought OEM knock sensors were recommended.
TURBOWHT
yeah i have also seen alot like that.
90GSX
I used this one on my GSX and had no problems with it, plugs right into the factory harness, and cheaper than what advance had them for around here.

Edit: Dur im a retard. Sorry i clicked on the wrong machv link in my favorites. Sorry bout that, guess thats what being up for 30 hours straight and 3rd shift can do, here is the link i meant to grab.

90GSX, the pic in this thread is a knock sensor, not an o2 sensor. wink.gif I've also seen several of those leaking. That flat-mouthed bastard eclaser has one in that shape on his engine, and I recommended having it replaced, but I wasn't sure if a sensor from the Zone or similar places were worth a crap or not. OEM is always a safe bet, I guess.

^^^Good to know. I'll let my brother know, and hopefully he can save some cash.

^^^^I'll have to try that too.

If I have to replace it later I will. But I need to get the rest of the engine built and would rather concetrate my financial resources on the stuff I absolutely need.
