lol, anyway, has anyone ever Rebuilt a tranny? I was thinking about freshening up one if I could pick one up with a broken shift fork or something and put a Speed Design center diff in it with EVO 8 shift forks and all new synchros and bearings. Total on parts would be about 850 so id save about 800 dollars or more. For all that on tre or shep its about 1500.

Josh at Slopny has always done top notch work for me in the tranny rebuilding dept.
Personally, I have had my tranny apart to put a spool in it, but I haven't rebuilt the whole thing yet.

There's a lot of expertise you're paying for with the trans rebuilds from TRE and shep as well that isn't easily visible. Those guys measure endplay and make sure it's within specs, which is something I didn't do whey I rebuilt mine, and is the mark of a professional trans builder. Sure, you can do it on your own and save hundreds, but when you add up the added hassle, potential for error, and the fact that you'll likely have an incorrectly and 'too loose' trans when it's all buttoned up, may make it not worth the effort in the long run.
When I take mine apart again, I'm sending it away to get 'properly' rebuilt. There's so much slop in it now, after 2 years of use, that it feels like sirring a jar full of mayonaise and bolts as I row through the gears.

Ive rebuilt a manual tranny before. They were all in school though so I had a teacher standing over my shoulder the whole time. I think ive done about 3 all together. I was just wondering if anyone had rebuilt one of these particular ones. Ive never done anything to a dsm tranny so I was wondering if there are any potential problem spots. Either way, im sure i'll puss out and have someone double check everything for me but at least ill know a little more about it. I figure if all else fails, take the tranny and the parts to al's transmission and have them do it. But id like to at least give it a shot.
