I know that I could look this up but limited on time. I guy stopped by and has a 6 bolt motor and tranny he will sell me very cheap. How hard and what is involved in making a non turbo into a turbo other than the oil and water lines? Again very cheap price so dont really wanna pass this up.
mitsu90
non turbo car or motor?
treydawgs4g63T
its a non turbo motor that I want to build for my 2g. I have the extra lines and have a 6 bolt rebuild kit but just wanna know if there is anything else that has to be done.
akamiami
you won't be able to swap a turbo into a 2g nearly as easy as a 1g. It would at least involve a new subframe, subframe connectors, and axles in addition to the already daunting job of ecu, wiring harnesses, engine, trans.

It's been said a thousand times, and you'd find out in a second if you did your own research, but you'd better off selling your NT and buying a turbo. Less hassle and cost.

you guys arent getting my ? I have a turbo 2g and a non turbo 6bolt motor. I am wanting to turn the non turbo 6bolt motor into a turbo motor then drop it into my 2g. I know that i could have searched for my answer but figured since this was a chat forum i could get help from some of the more experienced guys. Although the last couple of months it seems more and more non dsm related topics are being brought up and talked about. Probably the reason why a bunch of guys from here are starting to go to other chat forums. No one is willing to give any help, just bitch about it when people ask for it.

The only difference in the blocks should be the lack of oil squirters and the hole for the knock sensor is not threaded. The crank is the same but you would want to swap the rods and pistons for those from a turbo engine. The popular combo there is the 1G big rods with 2G pistons or to just buy it all forged.
99Spyder
Oh yeah, and you would want to stick with your 2G tranny because the motor mounts are different.
akamiami
in that case you're looking at a straight 6 bolt in a 2g swap with the exception of the oil squirters which were mentioned and a necessary change in pistons. You will not be able to simply put your 2g turbo pistons on those rods without having the rods flycut.

All of this information is readily available on www.vfaq.com.

Good luck getting $250 for that motor. 6-bolt turbo assemblies can be had for $150 more. Well, at least if you'd have bought mine it would have been.

Sorry to hear that you and "a bunch of guys" are looking at other sites. But in reality, I"m not. I'd rather have people going away than I would like to hear them complaining about this or that. Human nature, I guess. I'm sure the homeless down at the South Side Mission start complaining that the beds aren't too comfy or that the food is sub-par. Doesn't cost them a dime and has severely benefited their situation, but I guess that's just not enough for people sometimes.

But if you do decide to leave our boys' club, take heart: you'll be fully reimbursed for all the time and finances that you've donated to our cause so far. biggthumpup.gif

this is what goat was reffering to... unneeded comments spwan more. Goat is typically one to 'shoot from the hip' so I take most of his comments with a grain of salt. We have a fairly low tollerance for people who continually ask questions that can easily be researched.

With that...

Yes, you could use the NT block. Yes, you'd be better off finding a turbo block.

The answer to the original question has now been correctly stated a couple of times so I will address the bitching part of this thread.

DSMCentral is a place to help us all come together as a comunity to help each other build our rides better than we could by ourselves without all these incredibley rich resources provided by all the DSM owners past and present.

That doesn't mean DSMCentral is a shortcut to have questions continually thrown at when the information is readily available. I have a feeling that some may feel the task of locating the exact information they are looking for is a daunting one. A simple solution may be for those that are looking for the information to simply ask for a link or location to the type of information they are looking for. So many of us have been through so much, there will be a lot of experience in knowing where to find things.

With that said 'www.vfaq.com' is almost always thrown into a thread requesting information. And for good reason, it has probably 95% of all the basice performance information any street DSM will need. At the same time I can see how some may still feel they would get slowed down looking through so much good info. So those of us that know could actually just find and copy the correct link to the thread where the question is posted.

I for one HAVE to do it this way. Although I have read almost everything there is out there for my DSM and others applications, my memory is for crap! So when I am done with a project I forget most of the details and just keep a vague general memory of the installation. So the only way to get good, current and correct info is to look it up like a lot of us do or get a link from one of us that has researched it before.

That's simple enough isn't it?

As far as all this bickering, it comes with a comunity a suppose, but I am with goat to a certain extent. If someone continually bitches about things on DSMCentral with no good ideas the moderators feel will help, then I'm not interested in trying to keep them around. That makes sense to everybody doesn't it?

If not, hear is a little clue into my thought process. I despise the fact that this world caters to the squeaky wheel and disregards those with better manners, taste, or are general more hardy. This will not happen on DSMCentral as a normal form of motivation if I can help it.

In the words of Natedogg... BEERS to all those that get the job done honestly without whining or causing a scene! You are the rocks we all build from. biggthumpup.gif

Exactly. I'm a little more ambitious in stating an opinion, and have been wrong several times in the past, but I'm always one to admit a bad call or comment on my part.

Mitsu90, I wasn't trying to say that membership to another forum was a bad thing at all. I know that prolly everyone on this site frequents other sources as well. I just didn't like that it sounded like a "threat" from Trey that people were leaving DSMCentral in search of a more suitable forum.

If what I do is to be considered trolling, then please inform me or ban me, but I'd rather not have a constant pissing contest with folks when I state my opinion.

And I retract my statement about getting that kind of money for your engine, Travis. I didn't realize it was complete with a head and all. Good luck with your sale. I got good, fast results on ebay with mine.

I was under the impression that Moushon did NOT use the NT block, just the pistons. There were many concerns on if that was the correct course to take, like Spy said, it worked for him.
awd4kicks
Moushon used an entire NT engine with boost added. Not recommended for longevity in my opinion, but it did take a lot of power adders and lay down some impressive acceleration with extensive lightening of the car.
