I need a good line on a oil pump. How good is the top line oil pump? I know most of you say go OEM but I don't have the money to go that way. If someone knows where I can get a oil pump for cheap or cheaper than OEM, Please let me know. biggthumpup.gif

Used a Topline one in what is now the Goat Rocket... seemed to work fine there. I think slowboy had the oem pump for $250, and the topline was $180... $70, might be worth the oem if you're going balls out.

Don't forget you need the oil pump gears to go in the case..at least for a 1G.

Topline I used had the gears in it... bolt on and go.

I need this like asap, Or I don't forsee myself making it to slowpony days. And I would really love to go to that event.

Slowpony is who I checked the price through. I had ordered one off of ebay and have not recieved it yet. It is now a month later and I finaly got the gasket kit for the motor. And I ordered them at the same time. So now I am on a search for a oil pump that will get here.

This car has exhausted all my funds and my girl is getting mad because it is still sitting. So I will probably go with a topline, I would like to drive my car this year, LOL.

The oil pump is the literal heart of your engine. If that goes bad you might as well say good-bye to the engine. Personally, I'd only go OEM, but then again I've never had any personal experience with Top Line.

What Nate said^^^

I ordered my pump and gears from JNZ, cost $228 and got it in 2 days!

For $40 I'd go with OEM...I'd doublecheck and MAKE SURE the price you got was with the gears. I had one place tell me the thrust bearing didn't come in the OEM bearing set....so you never know. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Well I finally got the oil pump I ordered over a month ago. It looks great! But it is a freakin shame it took me over a month to get it.
If anyone is interested in this guys name, it is "Guit-Guit" on ebay.

Now I am off to put a motor together! Woo Hoooo! biggthumpup.gif

Yes he is a very BAD seller. He wouldn't return my phone calls or emails. Then when I file a dispute against him on paypal, He turns around and files a complaint against me on ebay for non payment. I paid him on the 5th of March and it is now the 7th of April. That is just dirty dealings to me. There is more to this story if anyone is interested let me and I will send you the info.

Know back on subject--- I noticed that the new pump has angled gears and the old one had straight. So I would think this is better, Right?
I am also installing the balance shaft eliminator kit on it. This may be stupid but...... The plug that goes in it, does it go in just like the ones on the engine block? And is there a torqe on the bolts that hold the back of the oil pump?
Thanks for the help on everything!

Do you have the rubber plug or the steel one? THe steel one is harder to drive in and MUST be JB welded not to leak.

I used the rubber plug and pushed it in by hand. I then put JB weld around the plug to make sure it won't leak.

Angled gears are the better setup...that's what I got.

12 ft.lbs on the bolts...don't forget the blue locktite
BudmannG
biggthumpup.gif Thanks for the help man!

I have the steel plug, Is it supposed to be pushed like the ones seen on the engine block? Or is it supposed to go in backwards. I looked on vfaq and pic that is there you really can't see that well.

OK I figured it out. I guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist! biggthumpup.gif

I have the pump ready to put on. I need to know how to get the castle plug out of the old oil pump. biggthumpup.gif

The plug that looks like a gear on top? I usually take a hammer and a screwdriver and unscrew it by putting the screwdriver on one of the teeth and tapping it with the hammer.

Yeah, that's always fun. I can usually get it loose by putting the head of a screwdriver up against the edge of one of the "turrets" and tap on the screwdriver with a hammer. It should come loose and then you can unscrew it the rest of the way.
BudmannG
I guess it's a good thing I got two extra junk pumps, LOL.

Thanks natdogg.

Haha! Beat me to it by a minute. biggthumpup.gif

I finally got it out. It took a straight edge chisle and a 8pnd sledge, but I got it. Thanks guys for all the help. At first I thought it was left hand threads, DUH!

To late now but if anyone is buying a top line oil pump try http://www.flatlanderracing.com/ in the import section, i have ordered a few rebuild kits at a good price from them.
6 Bolt Top Line oil pump = 138.00
Re-Ring kits from 189.00
Major Rebuild kits from - EDIT - 349.00
AWD DSM 1
Mach V sells the engine kit with the oil pump and timing kit for $500... I still haven't been able to find a kit so complete for anything close to that price.
Taxiwardance
http://www.importperformanceparts.net/impo...its-mitsu2.html

Same kit Machv sells but only 419.00 with the oil pump and everything
AWD DSM 1
Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I think that's the gold kit you're refering to... I don't think it includes the timing kit. Kind of pointless, since most people would go OEM on the timing belt anyway I guess. wink.gif
Taxiwardance
I found the rebuild kit from machv but it says it does not come with a timing kit just the belt.
