Hmmmmmm....... debating whether or not to comment on this. dry.gif

I used to be one of those "twist and tape it" guys. Now that I've got a soldering gun readily available, it's so much easier and reliable than the old way or crimping.

Here we go. The Fantastical Hot-Goat Method of Wire Attatchment (FHGMWA)!!!

-The first step in FHGMWA is to ensure that you have the proper amount of clean, stripped wire on each end. FHGMWA then instructs you to lay the two ends next to each other in the direction that they will naturally be when completed.

-Slide some FHGMWA-approved heat shrink tubing over one end and slide it away from that nasty hot soldering point.

-Begin to wrap the ends over each other in a helical manner much to the pleasure of FHGMWA.

-Solder according to that which you know, for this is the one skill that FHGMWA refuses to teach.

-Once soldered, FHGMWA recommends some denatured alcohol be scrubbed on the joint to remove flux and impurities, further preventing the chance of corrosion.

-Now for the secret weapon of FHGMWA: liquid electrical tape!!! Brush enough on to cover the joint and defend against water penetration.

-Slide heat-shrink over the joint, heat-shrink it, and TA-DA!!!!! A beautiful FHGMWA-made wire splice.

Fresh from the kitchen, just for you. wink.gif

Ahh, but its so much easier and quicker to just twist it and tape. tongue.gif ph34r.gif

x2

Its the easy/lazy way to do it.

I will step up here to defend Spy with the Rocket...

It was I that wired up the MAF Translater in the Rocket. Don't get mad at Spy for that.

I have never had problems using crimp caps with my connections, HOWEVER, I do recognize that they probably won't work under the hood of a car that is exposed to the elements more than the cabin is.

My dear, dear Jordan. Don't think for a second that the MAFT setup is the cause of my ohmy.gif when looking under the hood. I really like what you did there. There are other unspeakable horrors that lurk within the depths of that wiring harness. The Creebster hath seen them and hath said "well.......I guess it looks good on YOUR car, but........"
The Iron Goat
Why so defensive, Spyguy? Hahaha, yeah it was the wire nuts that killed me. And I don't blame any one person for all the amazing feats in wiring that I've found on this car at all. I'm just facinated that it all actually worked. And there's nothing wrong with that grounding cable, either.
JBone
Yeah, I forgot about that grounding strap. Nevermind. Yup, that was all Spy on that one. HA HA HA!!

I have a reputation to uphold with the wiring things and what not. I was just checkin on that.

My favorites are the wire nuts. You know, the triangular shaped things. Just twist the two wires together and screw it over the connection and viola' the most unsecure connection in the world. They stay on every time. . . as long as you dont shake them, pull them, touch them, breath on them or look at them funny. My very first GST was riddled with them. But yeah, butt connectors and heat shrink tubing are the best and ive also had good luck with those wire caps that you crimp on. Those arent bad.
