Full Version: Difference in crush washers?

While chasing down leaks on the new rebuild, I was thinking....

I've got a leak on the turbo oil feed at the turbo and I think at the head side also. The block is wet around the head conection, the turbo feed connection is always wet and the top of the trans is coated.

The crush washers I got from JNZ were aluminum (or stainless?), so I got some copper ones from NAPA like the ones I took off the connections when I tore it apart. Has anybody tried the aluminum?

I don't know why they're leaking so I grasping at straws here!

Anybody have any insight here? I'm tired of wiping down the clean engine!

I've never tried aluminum, though the stock ones are copper which is a softer material and would offer a better seal. Obviously, this is dependent on the particular alloy of the aluminum, but I'm assuming these aren't 6061 washers, nor something incredibly soft and squishy.

I'd take a look at perhaps replacing the metal line that carries the oil if the copper washers don't fix the problem. It's possible that the line is warped or gouged in some fashion.
