Temporarily I hope.

Alright, so I'm leaving work tonight and I start the car. RPMs shoot up to about 3 grand, then drop to about 300, CEL flashes, radio pops (like power on off on off on off x7527657894) then car dies. Start it again, rpms go to about 600, do it again. Start it again, does it again, then levels out and runs alright. Not the first time this has happened, just never this drastic before, and its the first time in a while.

So I put it in gear and start to drive home. About halfway there, car goes low idle, starts bucking under throttle, dies. Won't start again. It just wont turn over, no matter how hard I crank it. Me and random bystander #1 push it into a parking space (It was uphill, hence why I needed help). I sit there for about 10 minutes, then try again. Starts right up like a charm. Thinking I may be able to rush home and make it, I take off. DSM makes it about 3 blocks, dies again. I roll into an empty parking lot. Let it sit. Now it just wont start, period. Radio works, lights work, plenty of juice. Not battery or alternator from what I'm thinking.

Of course I call roadside assistance, only to have them call back a half hour later and say nobody has a flatbed available. Fawk. So I call Amanda, have her come get me, and leave the Talon in the parking lot for the night (didnt say no parking, hoping it wont get towed or ticketed).

I'm thinking ECU failure. Of course, I sold my spare ECU a month or so ago. Sound about right to anyone else? I didnt have any tools with me to pull it out and inspect it tonight, don't wanna go back and look it over right now. I think I may have a line on a another for sale, but if not, anyone have a good one laying around?

OK I think i've found an ECU, going to get up at the buttcrack of dawn and try to get her working before people come to work at the place I'm at.

har har, woke up this morning and tried to crank it over. No go. Pulled the ecu, opened it up, looked fine. Put in new ecu, cranked it over, fired up first try, no problems.

Gotta love the DSM ECU's! Glad you got it fixed.

yeah, I think I've come to the conclusion that just about whatever breaks on my DSM, if I replace the ECU it will work again.

If that's the case I'd start a stockpipe and leave a couple in the car at all times. laugh.gif
