Ok guys I am getting the 6bolt shortblock back on Friday. I am using my 2g head on this. And I know that a 1g head will flow better but I am using the 2g head. I was wondering if any one has experiened this? Main ? can I use the 2g oil filter housing with my stock oil cooler? Also will my 2g water pump bolt onto the 6bolt front case? I have read conflict stories on that. Any other info would be good. I would like to have first hand experiences not go to this link. Chances are I have already read them.

Thanks guys. Also we are starting the reassembly this weekend if anyone would like to come out to Downs and help or just hang out. My number is 309-261-6880.

Thanks
Jeremy

well , water pumps are fairly cheap so why not just buy one? also the oil filter housing on the 6 bolt is different from the 7 bolt ( the passage holes dont line up all the way ) so no luck there.

How far is Downs from the peoria area, might make an apperance if im not working on mine.

I also have a 1g head ( complete ) for sale if interested so that you only have to do it once. ( comes with complete head, intake manifold, coil pack, valve cover , thermostat housing )

yours for $275

wacko.gif I would stay away from this link! This swap was done before Magnus came up with the CAS wiring technique to provide the crank signal. RRE actually modified the block to put a 7bolt front cover on a 6bolt block, whoa. I know that you didn't want links but here is prety much exactly the way I did mine Magnus Motorsports 1G in a 2G.

I am pretty sure that the 2G water pump will not work as it bolts to the block and fits right up next to the front case. I didn't really argue with the parts list on the Magnus site... As far as the oil cooler, it does have to bolt to the front case and will have to be for a 6bolt.

Something else you might watch with that block to head combo is the water passages. I have read somewhere that they don't always match up between a 1G block and a 2G head. I would be cautious and hold my head gasket up to both sides before putting it all together, just to make sure.

I was going to do the 6 bolt swap in the 95 gst i had and figured it was a waste of time and money. Went with the 1g awd instead. but since youve gone this far i would spend a little more money and time and do it the right way!

I would also definetly listen to 99Spyder cause he has basically transformed a GST into a GSX with 6 bolt swap. Pretty sweet!

How do these rumors get started... huh.gif

Thanks guys. I should have the short block back on Friday then we will start putting her back together. It has been almost a year and 1/2 since she has seen the pavement. This weekend is all DSM until I run out of parts or can`t get them. So I should be done on Friday night because I will need to wait 2 more weeks for parts. (I hope not). But it should go together good. I will keep the thread updated and maybe put some pics up as we go.

pics would be nice. they are a good source to look back on also.

Sorry 99spyder! ahhahahahahah

No kidding... I konow the last time I was there I had to see for myself that it was just FWD. I shoulda known it was BS cause it would take a rocket scientist to do that.

Hey guys! I just got my car back from being transformed from a '99 GSX to a 6 bolt. I can not take credit for doing it because I didn't do it, Advanced automotive center on Washington St. did it for me. My reason for not doing it is because it is a pain in the ass! But anyways, don't buy anything from tigerjapanese.com, because they completely screwed me over not only on the money, but on the engine I bought too. I had it running for 2 days and I blew my head gasket. I send my head to a machine shop to get pressure tested for cracks and they told me that the head had already been milled and that the head is warped. The head is junk! Tigerjapanese.com told me that the engine is no longer under warranty and they screwed me. So I just purchased a brand new head from slowboyracing.com and it shoud be in 3 days. www.slowboyracing.com are AWESOME. It should be up and running in about 1 week.

the aluminum heads on the 4g63's are very tempermental, typically just removing it warps it. Typically they can be milled several times before they are junk.
jakesgsx
huh.gif So you are telling me to go ahead and put the "junk head" back on the engine and chance having the valves hitting the piston and completely screwing my engine up. I think that I would rather get the NEW cylinder head than putting my old warped and already milled head back on it. Besides, the machine shop told me that it had already been milled to the point where it would have contact if I put it back on, so I would listen to the machine shop. biggrin.gif DO you want the old warped head? I'll sell it to you...
awd4kicks
Jake, I think he is just saying that it is comon for a 4G63 head to be warped when taken off of a used engine. In otherwords that is no suprise and not a reason for it to be junk. On the other hand if it has been milled to the nth degree and there is nothing left...it could be junk as they say.
AWD DSM 1
Exactly... you can also get a thicker head gasket to make up the difference if the head has been milled.

no offence, but I seriously doubt Advanced Automotive center in washington know more about DSM's than most of the coremembers on here....
