The problem was probably that they were using normal sand. For turbocharged vehicles they should always stick to a fine grain sand like what is used in pool filters. Trying to extrude hone an intake and exhaust manifold with cheap sand is like wetsanding a car with 60 grit sandpaper.

True. True. And then you have to make sure that all the sand is washed out through the tailpipe with a few gallons of water.

I've also heard a cheap way to bore out the cylinders in your car is to wrap your pistons in 75 grit sandpaper and drive around normally...and sometimes aggressively. More displacement = More power.
