I've heard a rumor that twin scroll Garret GT ball bearing turbos are or will be coming out in the GT35 and GT42 sizes. Does anyone have more info on this or a web link? Sounds very interesting to make a 35R or GT42 spool up quickly... Almost dangerous. biggrin.gif

Is this something different from the current twin scroll turbos they offer? The GT42 we have right now appears to be a twin scroll.

Do you know if they currently offer that twin scroll in the with a ball bearing CHRA? I think that was what ODT was referencing.

The twin scroll housing is available regardless of BB or Journal Bearing CHRA. You can swap the compressor/exhaust housings off of each turbo with the opposing version.

FWIW if you arent running a twin scroll manifold you're not going to get nearly as good of benefits seen when using a twin scroll hotside......

Yup ours is a ball bearingg and as Booztd 3 said the housings are interchangable.
We do have a manifold that takes advantage of the twin scroll.

Is this the same set-up that we watched you dyno over 800HP with Darryl? If memory serves me right you weren't seing the real power until the high 7000 RPM area.

Guess I need to get my butt in gear and do somthing with this tial v-band housing I have for my 42R. Robert @ FP said that it would spool better than the cast T4 housings.

Currently taking donations to buy the header from shearer. :-)

The 42 is a late spooling turbo regardless of housings, stuff just isnt going to happen fast w/out the aid of nitrous.

Here's my dyno chart at only 18psi......

Yes and no.

Since then we put in Brian Crower 280 cams, much better intercooler and most importantly the cams were not degreed in. The head we're using has been shaved a few times and who knows what else has changed, but anyway both of the cams we're retarded to what seems to be about 4 degrees. At the Michigan Nopi event the turbo spooled about 1600 rpms sooner!! The first pass I came out of the hole easy expecting to bog and the car just dead hooked and pulled a 1.400
60'. The car hit 40 psi in 1st gear! It had never done this. The next pass gentle out of the hole and the same thing 1.403 60'. The rest of those runs had some electrical/fuel pressure issues. Lately the car has been running 10.1-10.9 with the car not running at the 1/8 mile and coasting through the 1/4 mile trap between 96 and 110.

So forget what you saw on the dyno everything was messed up then. Our best run to date was 9.2@160.65 and we hit 127 in the 1/8th. The 60' was horrible and this was before the cam timing correction. The new IC net only a 10 degree temp increase during the 1/4 versus the old one it rose 50 to 80 degrees. Hopefully the next time out the issues are resolved and we can see some real ET's.

So do you feel that you are into the meat of the HP by the high 6000RPM area like Andy's graph represents or do you have a guess?
awdnot2
I would say yes without a question. We may also ditch the 42R for something that spools a little better and makes more power.

Excellent! Can't wait to see the new set-up biggthumpup.gif
