Full Version: 60' Times

Just curious what kind of 60' times people are looking at... AWD, FWD, regardless. The strip season is coming up, and I'm getting a bit of cabin fever. Rather than talk about 1/4 times, I'd rather discuss and build concensus on how to lower the (my opinion) most important part of the time slip. Please chime in with your set-up, best times, etc. I gotta figure out what I need to beat this year! smile.gif

my best 60' was like 1.89 but usually closer to 2.00. I'm to scared of breaking anything to launch super hard.
JMoushon
Are you launching off the factory stutter?
kapoosh
factory was 5000 i think, i'm at 5700 now. It either bogs down or spins like crazy though. I just have to find a good in the middle.

I always found that slipping the clutch and 2-footing (or e-brake holding) built better boost than a 2 step. I could only get about 10 psi off the step, but if I slipped and held the e-brake, I could usually get about 18. My 2 step was at 3500 on a 20g though, so I'd bet an Evo at 5700 would build pretty decent.
kapoosh
that's the problem i can't even build 10psi off the stutter at 5700rpm. I should try playing around and see if there's a way to build the boost up more.

The S4 launched a LOT harder but i think it was due to the extra torque.
JMoushon
Try 2 footing and slipping the clutch. Boost WILL build, but you'll have to practice to keep the car from moving. Never felt the pedal layout in the evos, might be more difficult.
kapoosh
i'll have to try that sometime. Never really thought about it before but thanks!

Best in the Buick is 1.60, bone stock suspension and Hoosier slicks.

At the time of the 11.8 my 60 was a crappy 1.91 spinning the Sumitomo All Seasons. The best that I could muster that day was in the high 1.8's. Very weak in my opinion. Tires would make a whale of a difference at this point.

When I was running about 150 less HP at the 12.6 range, I could hit 1.70's on my street tires with the AWD.

James. if you get some stickies and upgrade the rear control arms, you will be in pretty good shape. I've seen Josh pull the front tires in a Fox body running close to the same ET's I'm running now.

Interesting statement wink.gif The car has good arms on it, and I ran a slick at Vicary day. Ran a 1.69 60', with multiple in the 1.70-1.75 range. I think ultimately I'm limited by power, but a solid head/cam/intake package and a quick swig on the jug (both in the works) will likely cure that. I figure I'm putting every bit of 220-230 to the wheels, and for that, I don't think my 13.6x times are too shabby. I'd like to see about 420-430 to the tire on the bottle, which is pretty easy on this car. Everything I've seen says I should be in the low 12s/high 11s at that level. Realistically, if I can start the year with the car where it is now, just adding the spray, I'd love to see some 12.6x times, and 60's in the 1.5 range. My goal by the end of the year is 115 at the big end...

1.40 60' at the end of last season. We use Hoosier QTP's, JIC suspension, poly bushings and no stutter box. I rev the engine and lauch the car at about 5000 grand with the aid nitrous coming at 5500.
JMoushon
D- On a launch like that, do you ever pull the wheels, and if so, does that hurt the run? I would think that to be counter-productive, but that's a lot of power being transferred to the rear wheels.

To me, Darryl's car always looks like it rises vertically on all four tires and then moves forward. I never saw much body roll to the rear...

My AWD 60's are in the 1.7-1.8's on street tires on the stutterbox (5600??) with adjustable KYB's. Clutch has a lot of runs so there's probably some better times left on the car.
JMoushon
I would assume the suspension set-up on that car is pretty tight, weight transfer seems like it would hurt a lot...

I cut an unofficial 1.48 just free revving and dumping at 7krpms.....however its not on any time slips I have

I do have 1 or 2 1.52 60' times.......all on MT ET Streets

Put that pig on a diet and you'll be hangin'em with low 1.5s...

No diet needed smile.gif

I should just do the auto like I keep debating on, they'd drop considerably. A friend in AL is running a TH400 setup on stock suspension and typically runs high 1.2's biggrin.gif
