Well i'm pretty sure that my 95 GST is sold and I have by chance picked up a 90 mirage 1.5L hatchback 5-sp. I also have a 90 mirage auto 4-dr sedan that I'm using as my daily driver. Well, heres my plan. I plan on dropping a 4G63T into the hatch. What would you guys recomend? I am for sure going to use a 6-bolt but I would like to stick with 2nd gen internals. Would you guys recommend having a 6-bolt rebuilt with the 95 internals or should I just try and find an intact rebuilt 6-bolt?? Its a fairly straightforward swap, and I should be in the mid 12's with a pretty much stock setup. Any infoinput is much appreciated. BTW- Both of these cars will be paid off so thats the good part. Thats an extra ~$450 a month that I can pour into this mirage. I think its time we showed those honda guys what a real hybrid is made of. smile.gif Thanks guys!!

You'll want the six bolt block, crank, and rods, and the 2g pistons. The rods are stronger in the six bolts. Either that or go all forged internals biggrin.gif

Sounds like a fun project... keep us up to date on your progress.

That'd be the shit. I gave you that link to the turbo mirage guy on CII, right? If not, I can try to find it again. Rob is right. The entire 6-bolt bottom end is much more stout than the 7-bolt. I'd go for a 1G head as well, because it flows more in stock condition. The only things you should want or need from a 2G are the pistons, exhaust manifold, and throttle body elbow. I agree that you will run quick time with the stock 4G63T setup because the Mirage's are so light, but traction is what'll get you as I'm sure you know from owning a modded GST all these years.

Just remember Nate's recipe for FWD traction:
1. STIFF suspension (especially the rear)
2. LSD
3. Drag radials
4. equal length halfshafts off an AWD (not sure if these work with Mirages or not)
5. stiffened motor mounts. (front and rear)

The turbo mirage guy is actually the guy who pioneered the DIY stiff motor mount process for the 4G63.

Yeah, i got that link. That guy is selling the mirage with the 20G on it that ran a 11.3 or something like that. If you search on dsmtrader.com hes got it up for sale at $6500!! I've been researching this for a while and just happened to come across a 5-sp hatch and my car is probably sold, all in the same week. Now tell me thats not fate. smile.gif Thanks for the input though guys! I'm sure i'll be needing more in the future. And yes, i was planning on doing the DIY motor mount inserts. It looks pretty damn easy. BTW- does anybody have a 6-bolt block for sale?? smile.gif

I've got a 6 bolt block with the strong 1g rods, crank, and assembled head. It's got 1g pistons included, though the block was bored .020" over so they won't fit and new pistons are a necessity. Since 2g pistons cost the same new this sounds like what you're looking for. Everything is fresh from the machine shop with all freeze plugs and bearings installed. PM me if you're interested.

That will be a great project and a monster on the highway. But Nate's right...traction is still your enemy in the Mirage. I think the fastest I seen two separate 4G63 powered Mirages run at my first Shoot Out, was a 13.2 with drag slicks (Old guy in a white hatch). I think both guys were running 14b's at the time though.

Good luck and keep us up to date Mark!

The fastest current mirage is an 11.67. It was the guy in the white hatch, but he was running a 20G turbo then. The car is up for sale for $6500. If you ask me thats a damn good price for a car that fast. And as far as traction, AWD dsm's springs and struts amazingly enough fit the mirageturbo. Also, the rear strut bar for an AWD dsm will work. I will be using an LSD equipped tranny also, but im not sure of the halfshafts as i have to use the stock 1.5L halfshafts I belive.

Ouch! You'd think those halfshafts would snap on a car running 11's. I'd email the turbomirage guy about those.
