so the brakes are on... noisy once they are hot under light braking. they squeek when i am coming to stop at a light or into a parking spot.

the rear dif bushings didn't do a damned thing, kinda sucks. but overall the car is great.

ATE came in yesterday so i am going to bleed the system this weekend in prep for autoX next weekend.

i might make it out to the drag day... still up in the air on that one though. the last time i went to the drag day at cordova my car left on a flat bed with a broken 3-4 shift fork. i am not sure i want to brake this one quite yet.

i am "sceered" to break my EVO two weeks after i bought it? hell yeah i am. i have never blown anything up at autoX... we will see.

I would be too. Before you know it though you'll be riding that EVO hard though! biggrin.gif

What was it you were looking for out of the rear diff bushings?

I think he's trying to get rid of the loud thunk between hard shifts.

Let me know if you find a solution, i'd like to find a way to get rid of it too.

I always wondered about that too. The first time it did it, it was such a huge BOOM that I thought that I had blown up the rear end.

from what i was reading the issue was the rear bushings bottom out when the dif twists on the shift. and the obvious fix was to remove the rubber bushings and replace them with poly. i picked up a set of the white line bushings and installed them last week. it does not seem to have fixed the issue.

AMS sells a mustache bar delete kit that is also supposed to remove the clunk. it replaces the bar that attaches the back of the diff to the frame with a small piece of milled aluminum. it runs about $250 according to their website. this bar also cuts 14lbs from the rear of the car.

AMS says it works but i have heard from a few people that it either A doesn't work, or B can make it worse. so we will see how bored i get over the summer and how much money i have. i may throw one on and see what happens.

Respectfully, sir, if it's about that thunk, either put the time and effort into the internal or external (exhaust) sound systems... wink.gif

Funny how I never really read much about that thunk until AMS came out with a new expensive part that 'cured' it. Don't get me wrong, it's a good part that saves weight, but is it really necessary? Also, it increases road noise. I've driven a 2g DSM with aluminum rear differential bushings and it was hella loud. Too loud.

IIRC, AMS' mustache bar delete only cures the up/down movement of the diff. You have to buy separate solid bushing for the side diff mounts, but maybe they're including those in the kit now.

I've got the Energy Suspensions bushings in my Evo. With a cheap press from harbor freight, it was an easy install. This was before AMS and Buschur came out with their parts.

You might want to replace the trailing arm bushings though. That actually makes a difference in how the car launches and handles. I think AMS sells delrin replacements for ~$75.

i had no idea that AMS had a fix for this until i bought the EVO and did more research. i just knew about the "EVO clunk" and after about three days of driving the car it started to annoy me.

i am just going to leave it the way it is for now. i need to focus on getting my tire situation taken care of and finding a dealership that will replace my 2nd gear syncro under warranty with an aftermarket clutch.

Good luck with that!
