Full Version: DSM video/racing action is crap lately

Over the past two nights I've tried looking for some decent DSM racing vids. There are a few scattered here and there, but most are stock-ish or less modded DSM's getting beat by cars that I know a number of us would eat alive.

I'm sure it has to so with fewer guys carrying the DSM torch, but the type of vids that are left out there are just dragging the DSM name into the dirt. I never was one to pick an easy or for-sure race, but it may not be a bad idea just to offset all the bad press. It's sickening.

We need more vids from the the DSMCentral members that are still running their machines in any kind of race. There's still some time left before the season is up.

Don't forget that Vicary day will be coming up in mid October. Since I still have the Talon, I'll probably go put the Talon through her paces again!

You also have to remember, them destroying the DSM name just makes the kills sweeter for the rest of us. Just as soon as I'm raceworthy.

Exactly as NC said.

This can be true 93dsm... just don't fall into that pit where most find them selves saying their car will do this or do that when it's done. Most people highly over estimate the initial performance of their projects when they haven't been to the track to test them out. (usually mucho time and tuning is required and even then, sometimes we don't meet our goals)

The DSM name just keeps getting more and more folks heaping on comments and stories that they break down too much to be considered worth racing or owning. That's fine because there are a lot of folks that just can't hack it. DSM's in general have earned that reputation, but I think that it stems from the cheapness of most DSM owners over the past 5 years or so. You can't make the power these things dish out with cheap or worn out used parts and expect them to hold together.

In any case, this would be a mute point to me if there were still stories and videos streaming out about DSM's whipping ass like I know they can.

Yeah I think I fell in that boat at one point.

I'm just going to try to build a reliable daily driven street DSM. 12's are a realistic goal in my opinion. Just takes time and money. I'm tracking down a rustless roller while I pull my engine and possibly do a rebuild while I'm at it.

12's are very realistic goals...put a big effort into tuning as Kicks said. You don't need alot of fluff. I hate it when guys come to me a recite a parts list of "impressive" parts (16g or bigger, cams, strut bars, blah blah) and when I ask what it runs they say low 13's ohmy.gif

You don't need to spend a lot of money, just concentrate on what to need to make the car run (water pump, timing belt, fix leaks, boost leak check) and then buy parts that make the car go fast (clutch, port turbo, intake pipe, exhaust system)

The reason the cars break is nobody spends money on the no-go-fast parts and the 16 yr old parts break, leak etc. You can't through a big turbo on a old car and expect it to go fast for very long.

DSM's do have a punk kid reputation, believe me I have encountered it at the strip. I've gotten wierd looks, especially since I'm hitting 40. But most racers will respect cars driven to the track, run 12's and drive it home.
