Howdy all. I'm Jason, a friend of Kris G's from EP, and he suggested I drop in here and say hi.

A little about myself quick, then onto subject. I grew up under cars, from Fairbury originally (over by Pontiac), and have been working on them ever since. My current project is a 78 Mustang King Cobra with a 5.0HO EFI. Just finishing a full top end upgrade, and working on getting the cage finished out. I definately hope to make some auto-X events next year, so will likely be seeing some of you around there. I tend to stray from the norm, and go more towards performance than looks and like some non-traditional setups (IRS in a 78 mustang? Yes Pls!). I don't have any current pics of it (will have some after I get it running again), but some old pics of the project: http://www.brandttuning.com/pics/mustang. I work as a network admin during the day, and do some programming, and help out with a dirt Late Model and the track itself at Fairbury.

Back to my intentions... I'm in need of a used 2g head for a 95 talon. I started just doing a headgasket for a lady i work with, did service maint of timing belt, water pump, etc, got it back together and it's still leaking compression on 1 and 2 (starting from driver's side), same as before changing the gasket. Both block and head looked good, no visible cracks, and head didnt' appear to be warped. I'm going to pull the head back off and try and check it more closely to see if I missed something. So in the meantime I'm looking for a used head. I posted a WTB on the exchange: http://www.dsmcentral.com/exchange/detail.php?siteid=848

If anyone has any suggestions on where to look for the problem, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks and nice meeting you all!

Welcome to DSMCentral Jason. biggthumpup.gif

I don't have any spare cylinder heads, I'm sure some one on here does though.

I have a 1G head I'll sell...

Welcome....start a project thread, you don't usally see too many people modifying that year. We like to see the progress on other peoples cars. Even if it is a Mustang...sorry couldn't resist a gentle jab.

Heh, no prob, I'd expect no less on a non-mustang forum smile.gif Will get one goin, hopefully will have it running tonight biggrin.gif

On the 1G head, what's the difference? Pretty much strait bolt on replacement? I don't care if there are minor differences, just lookint for a solid replacement, as this kid drives it back and forth to college. Also shoot me a price, pm, email, post, whatever.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to the site buddy!

I've done a 1g head in a 2g swap before, and while it's certainly not difficult, it may be a bit more of a pain that what you want to put up with. It all comes down to the availability of a decent 2g head I suppose.

Here's some info on the 1g head in a 2g.....

On a side note, I absolutely love RRE's humor....

Swapping a first generation cylinder head onto a second generation Eclipse.

For anyone considering the conversion these are the parts you need, preferably from a late (May) '92 thru '94 motor:

    * Cylinder head, with a fresh valve job, might as well do some porting while you have the chance but it isn't necessary. Best to use a May/92 and up head but a 90-91 head will work too, even a 90-94 non turbo head. The May/92 and up head has better cooling passages running between the head and block.
  * Stock head gasket or HK$ head gasket and ARP head studs if you are trying to be the king.
    * Intake manifold and gasket, can be from any year 1G turbo, they are all the same
    * Throttle body and gaskets (2) (MUST be May/90 and newer, 4 hose fittings on the top, 3 straight and one angled)
    * Coil pack and bracket (MUST be May/90-newer)
    * The big water pipe on the front of the motor (MUST be May/90- newer)
    * The complete water neck assembly on the side of the motor (MUST be May/90- newer)
    * The "u" shape water line that goes under the turbo (any year 90-94)

Hey Jason! Good to see you on here!

Just a quick update, pulled the head back off, found no cracks at all, but a very slight warpage - 0.015" gap b/t 1 & 2, tolerance is 0.0020".

Napa in Fairbury will mill it down for $45. If anyone ever wants to deck their head, this seems like a good deal and the guy has done several of them for the hornet drivers in town (who aren't supposed to do engine mods of course)

Just a heads up, but the 4G63 heads are very well known for having issues sealing if they're not milled properly. Something about the tolerances between the imports and the domestics. Most shops don't even have the capacity to determine if the heads have been precision milled properly or not, let alone ensure that they can do it properly and consistently. I'm sure somebody will jump in here with more information, but IIRC, the tolerance for a 4G63 head is something like an order of magnitude greater than what most shops are accustomed to seeing.

I've heard stories of some shops just breaking out the belt sander. laugh.gif

NAPA shouldn't. Service Auto NAPA in Washington has an awesome machine shop.

Rarely gets used though

Yeah dad has sent lots of stuff to this guy before, he's good and has good equipment.

Welcome!!! Glad to see another Mustang Driver on this board!!!

I have a '95 GTS with the 5.0 and 5 speed, mine is also setup for road race and autocross...

let me know if you need advise or help.

I ended up this board because I used to drive an AWD GSX.

not sure how much of a difference they are because if the head that 93 dsmowner is selling is the same one I sold him, it came from a '93 AWD, which has the 7 bolt motor.

is it the same head???
93dsmowner
All I know is it's the head I bought from Ben Volmmer. I thought his username was like gsxracer80.
