Had...
Now all I got is the chills and a hand full of pills!

No butt seriously, thanks.. Its the car.. not the driver.

Without the driver, the car is just something pretty to look at.

With the driver, the car is an artistic machine.

The end. smile.gif

Thanks for the props guys, but in all honesty...

You take a crap driver and put him in an evo, he'll all off a sudden look like a good driver.

You take a decent driver and put him in that same evo, he will look like a rock star...

Take a rockstar, put him in that same evo and he is a god.

Im just an ordinary guy with an extradinary machine... I really look forward to running a track dedicated, purpose buildt road course evo... That thing should FLY.

Most of those passes was due to an inexperience group. Im not convienced that any of the porsches were running at their full potential.
Then there is a power output question of my car..

Im not sure where the power levels are at running 20psi on race gas, and no knock.. I saw AMS has dynoed their new head at 24psi on the same gt35r and it made 535hp at the tires... My car with the stock head and the hks cams, may be somwhere close to 400hp at the tires.. maybe more, maybe less..
But with this type of driving, power is a crutch.. There is so many more turns I could of gone faster, that it really showed, as I re-watch the video.

Im switching gears for a while guys.
Im going to buy a beat up miata and run that the next season. Something with 110whp tops, and get my lines down pat..
That will also give me ample time to put the other one back togther.

I may end up selling this evo and take those funds to get out of debt.

That white bmw in the video is a purpose built race car, that tips the scales (per the driver) at 2500lbs with him in it, and makes 300ish whp..
I was able to out accellerate him in the straights.

I really wish I had some video from later on that day.. I was the follow car on an open track and was behind him for the first 15 mintutes... He had express to me, had I pointed him by, he wouldnt of taken it, and after following him I could see why. That car of his is so damn fast, but fast in a different way His fat tires, and track suspension, and my crap kdw tires showed how much the tires really matter... It was awesome. That was some of the best driving, Ive ever done, not caught on film...

I invited him to the dsmcentral cookout, hopefully he will show.

You my friend are not an amateur driver. I give you props for always knowing the limits of every car you drive. I have been with you in various machines, and the ability of your driving expertise is some of the best I know.

Give yourself a little more credit, buddy biggthumpup.gif

Knowing the car's limits is an awesome feeling. smile.gif

Just curious but how much would you be selling this Evo for? I'm interested although I can't say why just yet...

Well thanks Jbone... Its appreciated, I know I've had the pucker factor with you driving..

Hell. Its safe to say I don't enjoy driving with you in the least.. Or marcus... Or Dawn... Or Horns...

You know... I pretty much hate driving with everyone.. You all FREAK ME OUT.

Ill never forget the time when you were in the 240, taking the left onto Prospect... I thought for sure you were going to eat the median.. You didnt.. Or was that the yellow bananna.. Maybe it was the bananna... But... That being said, the Bananna was the 3S Giant killer... I couldnt touch you on that back road.. Well.. granted, I broke the transmission in the first 10 seconds, but still... You knew that road and the limits of the nanna to the inth degree..

And AWD4kicks... Getting his car to pivot with the his drive train changes... Talk about wanting out a car.. And then there was that time with him going head to head with the back in of that bmw... I crapped my self...

All of you guys knew, or got to know the limits of your cars one way or another.. And we are all here...

As we grow older, the toys improve, but the common theme is the same.. Run the piss out of it.. Break it, fix it... Rinse and repeat.

This road racing stuff is off the hook though, seriously.

93dsm... I havent decided what to do.. Im torn. The way it sits, its worth 25-29 at a guess... I could put it back to stock, and get 22-24 out of it at a guess. Mod wise its well over 10k in parts alone.

To be honest, if I was to sell it the way it sat, it would have to be to the right buyer. I couldnt in good faith hand this car over to somone until I pre-qualified them..
At least 25 years old.
A history of high power rwd cars that they have owned and opperated. (my car acts more like a over powered rwd car, than a under steering awd)
Then the cash.

Seems harsh, but this thing truely is a turbocharged scalpel that does more damage than a chainsaw and it can easily bite someone if they let it get away... Its a handful of fun at 20psi.
If I put a bigger radiator, tunneled the airflow and turned up the boost.. I just cant fathom the possibilities.. Well more than Im prepared for.

Anywho... Im rambling. I should get some sleep, while I still have time.

I understand. I'm looking at spending $22k for a WRX. $29k for that Evo would be sick. Have I driven anything like it? Hell no. But I've been looking at the Acura NSX and a 98 3000gt VR4. When I saw yours possibly on the market, I just smiled.

Hell, I'm 9 years out on age (But anal [critical] as a 40 year old).

Oh well. Whatever I get will end up being fast. I guess it comes down to being responsible and saving it for the track (which is more fun since it comes without the stresses of the law) smile.gif

As you are shopping, if you have the choice between something nice or fast that you would find excuses not to track, or something more reasonably priced but track durable (i.e. miata), Hopefully you choose somehting you can take to the road course, flog a little bit, and not feel bad or break the bank. You can get a solid track car for half the budget you have planned... and you could do a LOT with the remaining $10k (entry fees, helmet, tires, brakes, more entry fees, etc). I would hate to see you buy an NSX, then say you didn't have money left over for entry fee or consumables (or it was too nice to track, etc). Just trying to help you avoid future excuses!! biggrin.gif

Similar thing with people and mods. Between a $300 track weekend and a $300 car mod, i know which one really makes somebody faster. smile.gif

I understand what you're saying. If things go well for my family, money won't be much of an object.

I'm looking to stay with a DSM of some sort. smile.gif

So I'm looking at a Lancer Evolution VIII or IX, 3000GT VR4 (Found a nice 1998 VR4, fully loaded and garage kept so it's spotless, and 25k mi for $22k.), or maybe a Talon. I'm just not sure I want something this unreliable yet. I don't have the tools or know-how I'm afraid. :/

Anyways, back on track. I'm definitely jealous of you getting seat time. Once I meet prerequisites (Read: Age and a worthy vehicle) I'd like to head down there. My new high performance all season Aurora H107's 225/50/R16 on my Cavalier LS Sport makes for an exhilirating ride. I can't imagine any of the previously mentioned cars...

On another note, the WRX Sti at the Automall sold tonight. sad.gif Oh well. More excuse to get an Evo?

Maybe I am misinformed or the reputation is undeserved, but doesn't the 3si (VR4) chassis have a reputation for reliability issues? I had a friend who bought one and between the tranny and clutch problems, it put him (literally) into the poor house. Plus they are heavy cars, which is a huge handicap on the road course.

Where an EVO is about 3,300 lbs, the 3si around 3,800 lbs. 500 lbs is a HUGE difference. You'll feel it in every corner and braking zone, plus heavier cars are tougher on consumables. I know this is a mitsubishi fan site so I shouldn't talk negative about them, I just can't see the 3si platform as a good road course project car. You guys know these cars better than I do, so take all this with a grain of salt.

(of course, something like this could motivate somebody to do it just to be an underdog or prove me wrong. tongue.gif )

I'm looking for an Evo IX MR right now. I figure that with a good dyno tune in stock form, it should be more than good enough for me to learn.

Stock power will be plenty to start on.

Adding more power off the bat doesn't make you a better driver, it just masks your mistakes. I would work on becoming consistent and quick first. Get the most out of every stock pony, so when you add some, you can take full advantage of them.

You get into bad tunes and stuff, and it could take your car out for a couple years. Just one more thing to fiddlejack with and distract you from the driving! smile.gif

Horn's, I respect your passion to promote the road race driving that you love. It's always empowering to see passion in ones efforts.

I'll keep that in mind, but Im somewhat attached to this turbo/parts. Id probably use them on the other car.
