So its winter time and my mind wandered away from my current task briefly..

EVO VIII VS 996TT AWD VS C5Z06....

Which one and why...

There are a lot of different characteristics for each one of those cars. I guess it boils down to what you want to drive. Front engine AWD vs Rear engine AWD vs Front engine rear wheel drive.

The EVO represents a technological feat Mitsubishi was able to perform: create a fantastic turning machine with a drivetrain setup that defies capabilities.

The Porsche 996 helped to bring Stuggart back to the forefront. Better quality, fantastic grip, blistering acceleration, all in a balanced near supercar package.

The Corvette represents an American icon. The venerable pushrod motor design 50 years old with crap loads of torque and new thinking with a rear mounted transaxle.

I personally would lean towards the 996, having never driven one. I have driven an EVO. It makes a crappy driver good and an okay driver great. I have driven many RWD vehicles. I love throttle steering!!! Great direct feeling with what the car is doing. I have driven a Cayman, and that's as close to a 996 I have come (engine almost all the way back there). However, a MR car is quite different. But the suspension design put into that stupified me. It still astounds me how the Germans every year can make that pendulum work.

996TT but i'm biased smile.gif

Honestly I didn't think it would be THAT hard to make my ix run with a stage 2 996TT (a flash and an exhaust), but my brother took his to the strip 2 days ago and rolling into it ran an 11.6@126.9 with a 2.2 60'.

Granted i'm sure you can make a C5 Z06 do that too, but you lose the AWD which is pretty important to have all year fun smile.gif

I still think the EVO's are the best bang for the buck, but to make one do upper 120's on pump gas isn't exactly easy and It probably won't be reliable anymore.

Obviously there's alot more than just drag strip times for the 3 cars. I've driven all 3 (although an ix instead of an viii), and i honestly believe the evo is the most fun car to drive around town, it's by the far the most tossable and handles just as well about anything on the road....if not better.

But the thrill of the 996TT still takes the cake! And i hate the way the c5 z06 drives, so even though it's fairly cheap now and does everything well, It just feels like crap to me.....

You can run an 11.6 with just a flash and exhaust? What all have you been doin' to that thing, kapoosh?? biggrin.gif

I'd be tempted by the 996TT. I wouldn't do the C5. I'd have to test drive the 996TT *Nods*

And his isn't even an S or X50 model (which have the larger K24 turbo's). His has the stock K16's in it and I believe he actually shattered the record for trap speed with stock K16's and 93 octane.

My other brother's is an X50 but it's stock....I would love to see what a flash and exhaust would do to that one ohmy.gif

Its something that I have to look at long and hard..
Though an evo motor is what, 3-5k if it goes south... A 996TT engine is closer to 30k if it goes...

The Z cars... that is one that is so tempting.. I just love the way the vet handled. I too should spend some time in a 996 to get the flavor.

The only vette i've driven was my bro's 98. Nothing special, just a standard auto. My favorite thing about it was going around a tight corner, mashing on it, and feeling that rear corner just squat as it launched you. Worth the money for one? meh, probly not. But definately fun to play around with.

haha I wish, i have cams/exhaust/flash and have trapped a best of 114 on 93 octane. I supposed it's not bad for the stock turbo, but I would really like to be closer to 120. I think.....I would be happy with that........

Can 996 GT3 be an option?? If so, that would be my pick!

I love the throttle response of a naturally aspirated engine, and the throttle steering of a RWD platform. GT3 handling and steering should be right up there with the best.

(as most of you know, my pick would be heavily biased towards road course duty.. YMMV)

Engine Replacement on the 996 is what is waying heavy on me... not that I could even come close to affording a car like that, just in general.

The z06 is a good all around performer with the reliabilty of the GM pushrod ls series engine.. It has decent brakes from the factory, and I think a stock one I could punish daily and not worry about it.

Hrmm..

If the weather would clear up temporarily I would take you for a whirl in a 996TT. Both of my brother's were forced to leave their's here sunday when they left......now i just need some decent weather so I can enjoy them biggrin.gif
