I picked this up off my cousin who just had it built last fall. he sold the car that it was gonna be installed in (1969 chevy pro street) and now i am the owner of the engine / tranny setup. its a Big Block Chevy 396 built to hold over 1000 HP... i have all paper work on it and receipts for work done and parts bought... Its built like this becuase he had plans on throwing a huge blower on it. It is also coming with a rebuilt and modded 400 turbo trans with a high stall converter and a shift kit.... Both have never seen an engine bay. The engine HAS been turned over weekly since build to ensure proper oil coating....
looking to get $4400 for motor and trans....

Any idea what HP it was pushing without the blower, or was it not dyno'd? Still a hell of a deal, generally looking for at least that much just for the long block, no trans. Unfortunately most people I know in the dirt racing industry run small blocks, or I'd repost for ya.

my cousin said the machine shop that built it told him to look for roughly 500-600 horse without the blower...

OK thanks. He's going to see if he could use it for anything and check with the wife about it, told him it's a better investment than the stock market

If he's interested I'll try and get ahold of you this weekend to drop by and take a look at it.

i will have them for you but need your email addy cause i cant load them on here for some reason....
stock heads w/ comp cams valvetrain to work with the Comp Cams Hyd. blower cam. ( 547 lift int/exh , dur @ .050 int. 232 , dur @ .050 exh. 237 ). TRW forged pistons 9:1 comp ratio, OEM steel rods and crankshaft, fully balanced...... unsure of redline possibilities...

know what type of rods? H-beam/I-beam? This listing shows Chevy I-Beam listed to 7750rpm:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy-bb-bb...0402159005r6857H-Beams I'd guess would take 8k-8500. Can't find anything on crank ratings, but would guess a good forged steel would take about 8k or so too.
Then of course your only other limiting factor is valve springs/valves/retainers, with a good set of springs and titanium retainers you should be good for 7k-7400.
On our 400 small block race motor we push about 8k, our old motor (built a little cheaper) we had chipped at 7400.
