Prototype-X

Through its first nine generations, the Lancer Evolution has earned consideration as one of the world's elite supercars. It set a new benchmark for turbocharged all-wheel drive performance. But soon there's going to be a new high-performance dream machine from Mitsubishi, and here's a preview: Prototype-X. It's a very strong hint at what will become the next Lancer Evolution. The menacing, shark nosed grille. The louvered hood venting. Flared fenders to accommodate the increased track. Lightweight forged BBS wheels. Massive Brembo brakes. The functional rear wing. Dual exhaust pipes protruding from the rear diffuser. It's one serious performance machine. There's no doubt: Prototype-X makes a very clear statement.

With the all-new 2.0-liter 4B11 engine as the starting point, turbocharging and intercooling will boost power output to a new high. And putting this power down is going to get sweeter too, with an available six-speed automated manual transmission giving lightning-fast shifts from steering wheel-mounted magnesium paddle shifters. Of course purists can still opt for a traditional manual. But getting it to the ground may be the best part of all. With Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control system giving unprecedented traction and grip, like Prototype X, the next generation Lancer Evolution promises to be a driver's car like no other.

That's one sweet machine. Would be nice to see it on the road as a production car.

Gotta love the sst transmission on the MRs. The transmission is magic. I test drove one in March and it was like falling in love with my 8 all over again. I put it in sport mode and it works amazingly well.

It's definitely an improvement over the old platform and it's definitely still an evo at heart.
