Motor is IN!
Tranny tomorrow am (hopefully).
Anybody know the best place to get tranny seals? I've tried Autozone, Advance, and NAPA. Closest I got was the two outputs for the transmission from NAPA. Guess I'll try satan tomorrow.

Congrats on dropping that motor in. Must feel great to finally see something in that engine bay again!
I don't know about you but as much as I can't wait to fire it up, I'm not looking forward to the take-it-easy break in period.

The dealer is the only place I've ever been able to get them, and they weren't in stock either.

Thanks Travis, I hope to have some pics later today.
Eric.... Damn. I guess I'll get the two I can, and just wait and see if the others start leaking or not, go from there.

I got mine from Advance Auto. Take a used one to verify it's the correct one that they have and you'll just have to wait one day while it's ordered in.
I've got that 1g Manifold and valve cover if you need them.

Hmm, Advance Auto could only find two of the seals when I went in, you must have had a better assistant.
The dealer was actually pretty cheap on the seals when I got them, only like $3 per.

Tranny's in... Now I get to take it back out. Stupid F@#$ing starter plate was for a FWD. DUH!

Tranny out and back in in less than an hour.... by myself. I must know what I'm doing or something.
Now it's time to change the motor mounts out. Those seem to different on a FWD also.... figures.
Anyone available tomorrow afternoon for a couple hours? I want to verify from a running car that I have all the electrical connections right.

Mounts swaped out. Axles are in. Few other misc things. Replacing some of the wiring connectors, since Darryl had to hack some of them up pretty good.
Anyone have a lower flywheel dust shield they would be willing to sell? Mine seems to be MIA. Also looking for a couple gaskets - turbo to exh manifold and turbo to downpipe.
Looks like Project POS will have to wait till next weekend to make it's debut.

So, so close... but yet not close enough. Still need to put the exhaust on, run my vaccum line, install the coolant overflow, and fill the motor with oil and coolant. I'm quiting for tonight, maybe tomorrow she will live... I hope.

Car is complete. Everything is in place. Whether or not it's the right place remains to be seen... Dead battery is keeping me from getting it started at the moment.
You day may come sooner than you think spy....

Brain Buster of the day....
When the key is turned to the "on" position or motor is turned over, the fuel pump does not turn on as it should. When connected directly to 12v, pump turns on. When relay (from rewire) signal terminal is connected to 12v, pump comes on. I checked over the phone with Darryl on a couple other things... ECU seems ok, and MIP? unit is ok (one on pass side in the center console by the ECU). As far as I know all wiring is hooked up correctly, and no fuses are blown.
Any ideas why I'm not getting fuel?
Fuel filter is brand new and yes it's installed in the right direction.

At one point, I had fuel comming out of the top of the filter becasue of a loose connection, which has since been fixed. I have checked spark.
Anyone?
There's a special spot for your name on my garage wall if you figure this one out!!

Just wire it to a switch and be done with it

Fuse seems to be ok. Forgot to mention that when I had kristy crank it over for me while I was checking the relay, I was only getting about 6-7v out of the relay to the pump.
Your idea is getting more temping Eric....

Could the relay be bad?

I wish I had some extra stuff to swap in and try. It is possible that the relay could be bad, but unlikely, since it worked fine for Darryl.

Not being there, it is hard to locate the problem. If the pump has to be on the time while the car is on just wire the neg to ground and jump another wire to the ingintion. I knwo that sound like the biggest Jerry riged job ever, but it would work. have you posted this at dsmtalk?

While directly wiring the pump to the battery or ignition would work, I'm not sure that's what I want to do. My wife has expressed intrest in driving the car also, and I'd prefer not to have a checklist like that of a supersonic plane in order to start the car.

I'm sure that there are multitudes of bugs that will have to get worked out, but I'd rather take the time to figure out what's wrong than to just start rewiring the car.
I didn't have any time last night to look at it anymore. Would anyone be able to spare a hour or two to help me troubleshoot? It's rather hard to trun the car on and off while holding the voltmeter to the relay in the trunk.

Well, the POS ran tonight... for about 5 min.
Finally got it started with a little carb cleaner in the intake. Car wouldn't idle worth a crap. Not sure if it's because of the Blaha, or other reasons. fuel pump is now hardwired (basically) to the battery. If I had any money left, I think a GM Translator and some new injectors would be in the mail... oh well.

Not sure why, but I don't seem to have enough fuel pressure to get the POS to fire without some help. Anybody got a way to check the fuel pressure?
I'm getting really burnt out on this project.... 'bout ready to tow the dumb thing over to Josh's and let him mess with it. Wonder if he'd take some body panels and interior pieces for payment...

I'm thinking about heading out to P-town again this Fri. If you need a second person to stand around and curse then I'm so there.

I think Josh might have an extra fuel pressure guage. He let me borrow it before I bought my own.

Well.... I gave in. Car will be heading to Slo Pony for final diagnosis and repair. Kind of discouraging to come so far and not be able to finish the project, but I've come to a brick wall with my abilities. Hopefully a simple fix will get me on the street this weekend. I'd like to spend some time behind the wheel for a change!!
