I got it apart, FYI it had a broken shift fork and looks like it was run with 90w gear oil.

Damn.. I never got a chance to look at it.

I ain't complaining...just thought you'd want tyo know since you got comflicting information if first gear was bad. The fork wasn't completely broken. There was enought there to shift but I imagine it didn't like it at high rpm. 8)

I'm going to check the bearing and syncro clearances today. The only bad thing is the bell housing is cracked by the starter mount.
