I've found it before but now that I'm looking for it again I can't seem to find the site that covers DSM wheel weights in depth. Seem to remember reading that stock weight is roughly 23 pounds but I'd like to confirm that.

I'm considering going with a set of RX7 TT rims as my research seems to indicate that they can be had cheaply and supposedly weigh 13.5 pounds.

Any other reccomendations there though? I'm liking the looks of my 2001 rims but thinking that I might be better of selling them off if I'm serious about this weight reduction thing.

Guess I'll go home and weigh one of the old Laser Rims for starters but I'd like to see a chart that references them all. I know I've seen it somewhere.

Any direction or reccomendation out there? How much do those forged 17's you're running weigh Kris?

I know Marcus had/has a set of those rx-7 wheels. Be interesting to see what he thought of them. I think with all the other weight reduction you've done, a set of lightweight wheels would be a good next step. I think they say that every one pound of weight lost on the wheels is equal to a significant amount more in actual car weight.

the k-1's weigh 17 lbs. if you want those 01 rim's you'd better come get them.

I don't think you're ever going to save weight on rims. Lightweight rims are going to probably weigh about the same as the OEMs as soon as you slap some high quality tires on them. My k-1's with the kumho's weighed the same as the OEM with pirelli P6000's. Now, yeah, that's lighter than a set of 19's with blinging chrome, but that's just the antithesis of performance and out of the realm of anyone with with a shred of common sense.

the saying is if you shave 1 pound of rotating wieght, that is the equivelant of losing 10 pounds off the entire car.

I was just looking at rims, if you want light, you have to spend 350-400 bucks a rim. and were talking sub 10lbs a rim. ad tires and your looking at 20-23lbs a wheel. I've heard stock rims and tires are like 40lbs

so shaving 15lbs a wheel, should be a rather noticable gain.

I've read 22-23 pounds for most of the 1G stockers. Weighed a bare 1G laser rims yesterday. 19 pounds. I'll weigh some of the others just for kicks when I get ahold of bare ones for comparison. So, far though it looks like ironicly the ugliest (IMHO) wheels of the 1G's are also going to be the lightest

As far as the 10 pound aftermarket rims, although I lust after them, the pricetag puts them way down on the list as far as future purchases.

By the way, I've done some research and it looks like RX7 rims went up in weight in the later 3rd gen years. The lightest year was the '93 from what I read but reputed to be brittle. Might be an internet myth though.

Well your not supposed to run them into things like curbs... laugh.gif

hey those curb thingees can be downright dangerous. They really shouldn't put them so close to the road. They present quite a hazard there. Maybe move them somewhere a little safer.
