I just noticed this morning that my 93 GSX was running about 3/4 hot. Normally, the temp gauge is straight up but when waiting at lights and at the bank drive-thru it went up past 3/4. Once I was able to get it rolling, it came down somewhat but never to the usual 1/2 mark.
The overflow was full. I checked the coolant and all the little balls floated meaning it's good to 228. I've noticed a strange gurgling sound lately too when I shut it off. Any ideas?

Check to make sure your fans are working correctly,, usually if the fan quits, your temp is normal while driving, but when your sitting still it will over heat.

Yeah, one of my fans isnt working on the TSI. I just noticed it today. One of them kicks on but the other one doesnt kick on until the other one kicks off, but it only kicks on for a split second. WTF is that? I'll have to go over the wiring really well next time I have some free time. Lukily I just drve it back and forth to work a few blocks right now.

The passenger side fan is the main one. It's the one that will run to cool off the motor under normal driving. The one on the driver's side is the A/C fan. It will only run when the A/C is on. If your A/C is removed, you might as well take that fan out, since it won't work without re-wiring it. It's normal for the A/C fan to kick on briefly when the main fan shuts off. Just a quirk of the wiring or something I guess.

HardWire um to a switch temporarily and see if that helps if not then pull the T stat and change it. Check the condition of all of your hoses and your alt. belt (drives water pump) and if all else fails have the radiator checked after doing a flush and fill....Did I miss anything??

It doesn't sound like a fan problem. He said it still never goes down to normal even when driving. Check if the coolant is flowing. Maybe a coolant flush will solve your problem or it could be a thermostat problem.

It turns out that it was the thermostat. Thanks for the input everyone.
