The problem with my second gear syncro is getting worse. I have to be super careful shifting to second or else it grinds blink.gif and sometimes it does anyway. who wants to devote sometime to help me (that knows what they are doing). I usually pay in beer ar food, sometimes both (better than peanuts!!!!)
what all am I looking at, can I just replace the one syncro, all the syncro's or am I looking at a whole rebuild????????
whos up for it.

ps. kris, I still need to get that timing looked at (the prob that rised up and slapped me in the ars when I installed the air intake.) wacko.gif so much to maintain on these dsm's

Josh at Slopny is well practiced and has good prices on DSM tranny rebuilds. I'd just have him replace all your synchros while he's in there. Call 693-SLOW.

Checking your timing is easy. Just buy or borrow a timing light. Ground the pin in the plug that has a cap over it near the battery. Hook the corresponding wires on the timing light to 12V, ground, and your #1 cylinder (the one nearest the driver side) spark plug wire. With the engine running, shoot the light down at your crank pulley. Ideally you want to see the hash mark on the pulley line up with the 5 degree mark on the lower timing belt cover (right next to the crank pulley). If its not there, all you have to do is loosen the cam angle sensor (CAS, stubby cylindrical looking thing on the passenger side of the head near the throttle body). Then slowly turn the sensor one way or another until the crank pulley hash mark lines up with the 5 degree mark on the lower timing belt cover. When you get to that point, tighten the CAS back down, unground the pin near the battery, and you're done.

Isn't the timing was supposed to be at 5 degrees BTDC, rather than 10?

Yes, but I believe that the ECU automatically retards the timing 5 degrees at idle. Thats why you have to ground the pin near the battery. Unless I'm thinking about it backwards. Its been a while since I've checked the timing on my car. I'm sure someone on here knows for sure.

Ah. Its 5 degrees. I'll edit my post to reflect that. Thanks Kris.
