I'm hoping somebody can help tell me what this is or could be:

When I am driving and come to a stop or slow down to turn in my driveway, there is this horrible squealing noise...and it's driving me insane. It isn't my brakes, I know that for sure. Somebody told me that it could possibly be the sway bar bushings ( I think that's right), but then I had that looked at and it wasn't the case. Any suggestions? Anyone else had this problem? I'm not too familiar with the breakdown of my car, so I have no clue. Thanks.

If it only happens when you slow down I bet you that it actually is your brake pads or maybe even the Warning detector on the brake pad.

Does this happen every time you stop, or is it only when you turn and use the brakes?

I don't know how you "know for sure" that it isn't your brakes, but that's sure what it sounds like to me. I can't think of anything else that would only make a noise while you are slowing down. Sometimes you can get a rock stuck between the pad and the rotor, and that can make a aweful noise. Let us know if you get it figured out.

my car did this, i figured my pads were gone. not the case. the rotors are glazed over, they probably look really shinny. it's just like sliding your finger on a peice of glass hard, it makes a sqeak. take a peice of sandpaper, around 200 grit, and sand them slightly. you can either take your wheels off, or if youve got small hands you can probaby get your hands behind the rims. dont forget to get the backs, too.

It usually only happens when I am turning and slowing down....parking spaces and driveways are when I really notice it. As far as the brakes go, I am pretty sure because the car is new. I wouldn't think the brakes would be going out on it yet.

Mike...that would be cool if you could help me out if I can't figure it out. Speedracer mentioned the rotors being glazed over and sandpapering them. I'll try and give that a shot... What's bringing you out this way? Thanks for the advice too guys.

you've got a 2003 eclipse right? It should be under warranty. Why not take it to the dealer and get them to troubleshoot and fix it. Anything you try to do yourself could end up with them not honoring the warranty. Most warranties cover consumables (brakes, clutch, etc) for the first year or 12000 miles at least. I'd take it in if I were you.
