Do you have to retorque a head after using a mitsu metal HG and ARP"S?
I'm getting coolant pushing through my overflow again dry.gif

Hey smart a$$, your not supposed to have to retorque them but better safe than sorry. I've retorqued mine in the past with a metal head gasket. If you are pushing boost past the gasket into the cooling system and you've caught it early enough (Not warped), it is surely worth a try.

I had this exact problem just recently and had my head milled and I installed a new gasket, with copper spray just to be safe. Then I torqued the head studs to 100ft/lbs in 10 lb increments! Talk about being conservative on an install.

Do all that you can.

Hey smart a$$

no doubt.

I retorqued mine when I did it just to be safe too. Turns out it wouldn't have mattered though, I didn't budge the bolts one bit in the process.

Here's the weird thing though. I always hear people bitching about how they never get their metal HG to seal well and they always say that the head and block have to be perfect in order to get it to work. However, when I did mine, I just used the same head I'd been using for a long ass time, scraped most of the old composite material off with a razor blade edge, no copper spray, and just torqued it to 85 ft/lbs in 30 lb increments. Worked like a charm.

Damn, I did know of a good head....till I found out that mine was fubared the other day, now I'm going to be using it. We're going through head(s) around here pretty fast. Almost as fast as Nate gives it. AW, SNAP!

Bwahahaha...

Oh and by the way that's a good point about the torque wrench not budging when you go to retorque them. Mine didn't budge either.

Chad at FC Customs has a couple heads...I was kinda looking for one that was already built. I dont wanna use the hodge podge of internal in ours.
2g head ,90 rockers, newer lifters and who knows where the valves came from. Along with the fact that I think the stock springs and retainers could be a weak spot in the build I'd just like to do it better if it comes off.

sheee-at, we all know why your bride was smiling down the isle on her wedding day. She had a grin like this biggrin.gif

Super, you're using a 2g head? Why not a 1g, then you'd be able to take advantage of the 1g intake manifold.

I've wondered myself if I should retorque the head. I might acutally increase the torque. I'm currently at 110 ft/lb. Warning!! Use plenty of moly lube and new head studs. I have snapped 4 or 5 ARP head studs and lesser torque

The 2g head was ported and polished very very nicely along with a hone match on the intake for the 1st gen TB. I know I know but at the time I knew what was done to the 2g head and had know Idea what was done to the 1g head. Plus we sold the 1g head for good money smile.gif
Retorquing is the plan for now...I'll keep you guys posted if you are interested in our money pit of a car.
