98 Gsx) hey this is a question for the biggest gearheads>> ok i want to install a boost controller its a turbo xs. the install is not hard but i got to thinking about the factory boost selenoid and how it won't be used. Ok if that is the case then won't the computer think thats its opening at 14 lbs and the new controller is holding it closed till about say 16 lbs. will that trick the computer in to only mapping out gass for 14 lbs and not 16 and i will lean out a bit and will the computer then as a last resort pull timming and in doing so i will not make anymore hP i will just hurt my cars engine. to help you out i have only the basic aftermarket items intake , hard pipe and free mods. I do have a T 28 ging to be going in soon will that just compound the problem what do i need to do or think about or will the computer allow for the extra boost . if that is so do we have a learnning ecu. I am sorry to run on like this I just really want to do this right and safe parts arn't cheep!! biggrin.gif
thanks for all the help

The computer doesn't care how much boost you are running. It sees how much air is going into the engine and puts in fuel for that air.

Just unhook the silly factory crap and run your MBC. Just leave the power hooked up to it so you don't get a CEL

TurboXS MBC's suck. I have one and it spikes, my friend had one and it spikes, and many people on Tuners have had them and they spike. But if yours doesnt' spike, or your like me and don't really care...its all good.

But yea, the computer doesnt care about boost. Just once you get to much air comming in and the injectors can't spit out enough fuel, you hit fuel cut.

Yes just leave the electrical connection on the stock boost solenoid and unhook the vacuum lines.

Although you should make sure your fuel delivery is adequate with a rewire and possible pump upgrade at minimum. People have been running boost controllers up to 15psi with no other supporting mods for years... There is never a garantee, but there is a lot of proven history.

have fun! biggthumpup.gif

umm maybe it was the placement off it, and not the MBC itself?

I've used a TurboXS boost controller before also, they definately spike worse than ball and spring designs do. They also lag more than ball and spring designs. If its not spiking, you probably have a boost leak or a small exhaust.

Why? I guess, in my opinion, putting a T28 on a car that came turbocharged from the factory with a T26 is like entering a pissing contest when you already know you can't win (because yours is inevitably shorter than mine smile.gif ). Go for something like a 16G or bigger. Something like that will yield the best butt dyno results.

Forced Performances Big T-28 actually puts down some pretty damn good numbers. See here:
