Good discussion topic.

seperate question... If you were on a budget, what would be the most important to you? What area would you concentrate on first?

Personally, I have a hard time with this. I want a bit of everything, but can never afford it. rolleyes.gif I guess I'd have to say 1/4 mile action.

I said a bit of everything, but I'm not really sure about the "show" part ... *shrug*

I'm always looking for a bit more kick so I guess I go power first. Plus it's usually the cheapest and easiest. But, it's never enough!

After being into DSM's for over 5 years now, I still can't answer that question. I look at all the shit I've done to my car and I ask myself, "Self, when exactly was it that I decided it would be a good idea to take it this far? When was the exact moment that I decided building a wicked fast AWD 4 cylinder was more important than the horrendous amounts of cash I've poured into this life consuming hobby?"

Self still hasn't answered.

I think Self left.

Self realized what was going on long before I did, so he skipped town. wacko.gif

I feel ya Natedogg!

Mine is being contnuously built for any riggors that the street may hold for it. That happens to include a LOT of garage time. rolleyes.gif

Honestly, I intentionally dropped down to the FP3052 versus the 35R when purchasing my turbo to help throttle response and acceleration out of slow corners. I knew I'd pour the coals on in the straights with any given set-up, but you gatta be able to get there via the corners. biggthumpup.gif

Something tells me that everyone who voted for "a little bit of everything" mainly were thinking of quarter mile and turning capabilities together. When you really tweak your car to decimate in the corners, you start to add more horsepower to see how much faster you can take the turns. Low and behold, it is now fast enough to just stick it in the straight for a quarter mile and see what you get.

Unfortunately, it is the one trait that gets the most attention in the "street racer" syndicate, made up of fox bodies and other big v-8s that have a little harder time to turn. Granted, I do recognize that newer f-bodies and mustangs do have some better suspension work, but the ole 60s and 70s muscle cars only do one thing well. I also agree with Kazz, money put into making horsepowah! is typically cheaper to do than a fully adjustable suspension.

Just my .02

when i got the car i was thinking about making an autoX car but then i realized that it was pretty easy to make fast and i just kept throwing go fast goodies on it and neglected the handeling aspect. i already have some suspension stuff and plan to do the sway bars and such after i finish the straightline stuff.

so i guess it went from autoX to straightline... and ended up with a little bit of both.

I agree with JBone on this, I'm shooting for the combo autox and drag setup. These cars are pleasantly versatile for what you want to do. I'm not much on the show car thing, but I do enjoy making the engine bay pretty!

I have always pretty much be about the 1/4 mile I have had several cars that were totally useless anywhere else but in a straight line 68 and 69 Chevelles a couple G-bodys a few 70s F-bodys but I must admit I had fun burning through the corners in my stock first gen RX7 the jetta didnt do to bad in the corners but had no power but here I am with the Cavi built strictly Straight Line 1/4 mile at a time this is where my heart is and where all my money goes cool.gif

I'm not sure what the GVR4 was built for, it goes fats in a straight line the AWS seems to make it turn. but if I had to pick one thing I would say it was built to decimate any fence you put it up against. ph34r.gif

HAHAHAHA that is the funniest thing i have read on a forum in a very long time!

i put that my car is a combination but it is definatly NOT a showcar. just a car that can turn with the right tires and is pretty quick in a straight line.

damn.... what a great conversation topic.... I voted a little of everything, however, I think that the show car thing lacks solely because of limited funding.... the straight line part comes as a by product from trying to make big HP so that I have a easier time laying down faster lap times... I have definately put more money into the suspension than anything else.....

as a matter of fact, I am getting the car aligned again this week.... I have gotta get a lot of this negative camber out of the car's rear suspension.... 3 deg is way too damn much... I am wearing on about 3 inches of rubber in the rear while the rest of my tire is simply spinning around in the air acomplishing absolutely nothing.

I think that I am still going to run a fair amount of negative camber all of the way around, but 3 degrees is insane

I didn't touch it either.

anywho.....my dsm is built to be a PGM, plain and simple. Unfortunately, I can't say it ever worked as it should, ever. Sad really. I could have gotten more ass with an old vette or maybe a luxury car. 2g's get more attention from the ladies than a 1g, that's for sure.

aahhhhh shit!!!!!

The GSX has just got an upgrade in suspension now....

the adjustable rear camber kit is on as well as adjustable front camber, not to mention a fresh alignment to dial it all in....
the GSX previously ran 3 deg of negative camber in the rear and half degree pos camber in the front.... now it is sitting 1/2 degree neg camber all of the way around. The car is now predictable as hell, before it was like "if I go into this turn will it push, will it get ass slideways, will it grip???? lets see, oh shit!!!!"

now it is pretty much point and shoot.... point the steering wheel in the direction you want to go and it will go there, minimal slipage with just a hint of oversteer, just the way I like it!!!! can't wait till I can get it on a track
