as most know, i put a tranny in my car....when we tried to drive it it wouldn't go into 1st or reverse....we took the slave cylinder of the car and bled it and put it back on and now it goes into reverse, but still not 1st....we had to put a different battery in it because it wouldnt start....everything seemed fine, drove it around the block, but once it got to about 4500 it seemed like it was hitting fuel cut....we got it back to his house and it started actin really strange....it would idle up to about 1500 and then the CEL would come on, it would backfire and then drop to about 600rpm....it did it a few times and i shut it off....tried to start it back up and it wouldnt...another dead battery....any suggestions?

Do a boost leak check for starters. After that, your going to have to drive it around for an hour or so in town for the trims to find their happy places. Most likely that's causing a good portion of your problem.

The idle surge comes from your idle being to high. I'd check that the controler is pluged in. As far as I could tell the idle fuel/timing maps only go up to 1600 RPMS. The second you hit 1601 the ecu sees 0 TPS and thinks your decelerating. Just take it easy and slow. She'll be back up and running in no time.

so you think once i drive it around a little bit it will solve the fuel cut at 4500? how long does it take the computer to relearn fuel trims.....and about my car eating batteries....when i was under the car i saw a skinny wire hangin off by the alternator that i think was green with a blue butt connector....and i was on one of the other dsm sites and i saw a post where someone said that they it was alright...know anything about that?

fuel cut at 4500 was why I said to do a boost leak check. Your probably losing lots of air.

sorry to post whore, i'm a slut.

I've been in the process of making a couple of the vfaq leak testers... I haven't tried one out yet, but if your interested i can post pics in a couple of days, look'n $20 a pop. Save ya the trouble of going to lowes, to autozone, back to lowes, and then a couple of hours of pok'n around.

once again, sorry for being a whore.

Or if you want to check for leaks and not build one of them contraptions, you can just take dawn or some dish soap and mix it with water in a fairly soapy mix and put it in a spray bottel and spray it over the lines where it has clamps or where it could leak and it will make bubbels if you have a leak!

If that wire looks like a new wire it's probably the remains of the power wire I used when we did a manuel switch to turn on the fan.

because the 2nd night i owned the car...it overheated...so we had to rig up a switch straight to the fan.....i was thinking that it was a bad coolant temp sensor but maybe you know for sure....

Those fan relays go bad fairly easy. On my old 92 colt I had to replace both of them.

i cant seem to figure this out....my center diff went out on my last tranny so i replaced it with a used one....when i got it in, with a new slave cylinder, it wouldnt go into first or reverse....took the slave off and manually bled it, put it back on and it went into reverse but still not first...bought a longer slave cylinder rod and it still wont go into first....tried adjusting the linkage and it still wont go into first!...i dont know what else to do....i put pennzoil synchroshift in it (bought the wrong stuff) but i cant see different fluid making that much of a difference.....anybody???

Either you need to adjust your linkage, or your first gear is busted. Does it go into any other forward gear? Reverse is the hardest gear to get into if you're having clutch problems, so I would look in another direction.

Is it a 90 trans? You could also try picking up a set of 91-94 cables, they're more adjustable than 90 cables.

It was fine when it came out of the car other than the zip into first. KOU can vouch for it (who I got it from), along with Jbone who drove it at the autocross. Have you adusted the clutch pedal yet? That can keep the clutch from disengageing also.

I was goint to tell you to check you IC pipes to fix the idol problems. We did the same thing when when chnged the clutch out on my buddys 2G and it ran like crap goign down the road then we realized it wasn't hooked up and now it's fine...

We too have the problem with the cluth pedal. His goes in to first but the pedal adjustment is off...

i don't know if this will help, but i do know that the same day that jbone drove it for autocross, it had a 'zip' going into first. The way to shift it at the time without getting 'zip' was to come to a complete stop, shift into second, and then into first..
