Gates open at 11am

As usual get the feel of street racing with all the safety features only found at a true drag strip. This event is always a fun and friendly drag competition for all racers. With a Test and Tune style layout, you can run grudge matches or whoever you happen to line up against. No long lines, lots of serious gear heads, and tons of quarter mile passes in a safe & legal environment! All cars and motorcycles welcome.

$100 prize for quickest *street car
$50 prize for quickest *race car
$50 prize for winning bracket racer

Racer Entry Fee (If pre-registered): $35.00
Racer Entry Fee (at gate): $40.00
Spectators/Crew 16 and over: $10.00

To Pre-Register click Here
To see who is already signed-up click Here

Or visit Winners Circle on Prospect Rd. in Peoria, IL

For more information on Cordova, visit CordovaDrag.com

*Fine Print: Our basic definition of a race car is any tube frame vehicle or one with an 8 point or greater roll cage. We reserve the right to make this decision based on each individual car's set-up. There will be no special lane reserved for anyone. All cars will race side by side the way it was meant to be! Elimination runs will be held between all brackets for those that want to participate. Cash will be given out the day of the race. A $10.00 fee will be required for each additional race vehicle entered by the same racer.

I don't see you on the pre-registration list Kazz.

The timing hasn't been right to present my race season schedule proposal to my Social Director just yet.

biggrin.gif

... but you oughta at least pencil it in. I think I just dished a call-out and you know that if you put up and don't show up you lose. And I know nobody'd wanna win like that.

Besides, I think it could be a good lead-in for marketing the event, eh?

Yeah. We have two events a year that Kicks sets up at Cordova. One is this one sponsored by Slopny. The other is the Sport Compact Drag Day sponsored by DSMCentral and now AMS as well.

You need a helmet if you run 13.99 or quicker.

Catch can is a good idea, dumping fluids is never a good thing.

Just to add a little eye candy to an already fun event for us, I have been assured that Ron Kacir will be showing up with his 8 second big block Vega and Diddly's will be bringing two tubbed out big block Camaro's.

This Slo Pny Drag Day should Rock. There's a good buzz going around those in the hobby. biggthumpup.gif

I won't be able to make it. According to the doc, Andrea could pop at any time and I'd catch all hell from every woman on both sides of the family if I missed birth of my first kid. I don't need that kinda heat!

On the plus side though, the car should be running this week. I'll just need to get her broke in and tuned in.

Yeah, no worries there. The videos they made us watch at the Lamaze class were enough to gross me out. I guarantee you I won't be watching that end of things during the real deal.

I got a call from the IMS (Rizzo, Showalter, McCord, Rusty, etc) boyz a little bit ago. I left them at the dyno at around 2:30. I don't know much, but from the looks of Rizzo's race gas pulls (Showalter and McCord [gt35r] yet to be tuned, I'm sure they'll post #s), I have a feeling that there will be a bit of FWD ridiculousness present. Let's just say that a 300ZX TT recently put down numbers that are in the same ballpark. This is gonna be a good time... Oh, and the Miata is still slow.

Ok now I'm kinda pissed! I am gonna have to throw in the towel on getting the Talon to Slo Pny Day...YET AGAIN!!! mad.gif

I thank Spy, Rob, Josh and James for helping out, but my luck has run out. I spent most of the morning getting Rob's cylinder head together and trying to extract bolts and tap holes as needed. Then my cheapo head gasket showed up about 2 hours late and it is the WRONG one! dry.gif

Whew...Ok I'm glad I got that out of my system. On a side note the make-up of this Felpro gasket apears to be exactly the same a the Mitsubishi stock gasket, which is working fine with my O-ringed head.

I will see you all at the track bright and early! Rock the clock guys! Let's put up some new best 1/4 mile passes! I wanna see 'em! biggthumpup.gif

Nope, didn't make it to this one Bud. I am saving my 14 second passes for SCDC. I did however make it around the block a couple of times tonight for the first time since the rod bearing incident of November...

Thanks to Everyone that made it out to Cordova yesterday! And a huge thanks to those that tried to make it and were denied one way or another. biggthumpup.gif

It was definitely de-hydratingly hot out, but it was awesome to see so many great cars out there having fun. We had an excellent array of styles and talent. I wish I could have brought the Talon, but by the looks of it the heat would have made lackluster runs anyway.

We had enough participants that we were able to bump the prize for all three racing classes to $100! Hammar took home the fastest Street car award in his 85 RX7. Chris Shenuk from Wheaton, IL took home the fastest race car award with silver 1988 Trans Am by beating Ron Kacir's Vega out of the hole. And Terry Barker from Atlanta, IL took home the bracket-racing award in his Flaming green 2001 Mustang GT.

I have to throw out a HUGE hand to Hammar! Not only did he entrust me to pull a couple 11.4 runs in his RX-383 (First 11's I've ever driven thank you). He graciously refrained from kicking my teeth in after tapping his super car on the guardrail at 120mph! OMG that was the most intense driving I've had to do in quite a while. Luckily that was the last run of the day. Only a couple got to witness the craziness.

Let's just say I was excited enough that I didn't think as straight as I would like to have. I actually made it through 95% of my third pass with nothing but adrenalin popping fun... then about 50ft from the finish line my brain short-circuited. I thought I was in 3rd gear on the ratchet shifted auto as the tach needle began to sweep by the 6000RPM suggested redline. I tapped the gear selector up a notch and suddenly heard the engine revving high off the limiter! Holy crap...I thought I was going to blow Hammar's engine. Instead of just letting off the gas, in a rush of fear I bumped the shifter back into gear A COUPLE OF TIMES! My mind immediately shifted to the need to straighten the car out as the rear end began to come around. Back and forth the car fishtailed 5 to 6 times! At one point the car was about 30 degrees off center. I thought it was all over at that point but I kept adding input, as I kept getting closer to the rail. I kept thinking how much I DID NOT want to hurt Hammar’s car and I thought the fish tailing would never end. Then the inevitable happened... The nose tapped into the rail and then the rear as I the tires scrubbed the wall! DAMN! It happened, but this short period of time not having to steer like mad allowed me to realize that the Engine was still screaming off of it's rev limiter. Only then did I realize I slapped the transmission into SECOND gear at the end of the run. I popped the shifter back into drive and the heroing madness that I had thrown the car into finally came to an end with easy straight line driving! I was so PISSED at my self! I pulled around to the time shack where they stopped me to sign a waiver and I got time to see the damage I had done to a friend’s car. VERY upsetting, but Hammar ran up and seemed very relieved that I was ok. He was very understanding and nonchalant about any vehicle damage. I was jittery and pumped with adrenalin for the next 45 minutes! I can't thank you and apologize enough Hammar! blink.gif
